If that's all you have, the answer to where? is probably 'close to your router'.

One device has to be wired directly to your router so either its going to have to be within a few feet or you need a wired house.

Alternatively get a bridge to sit next to your router for about £20 and the world of sonos is your oyster.

What he said, They're limited without a bridge.

I have a surplus bridge if you want to make a donation to my beer fund.

I think Sonos are trialling some new software to make their units completely wireless so in the future you will not need a bridge. No idea how far off they are with implementing it though.

I believe if one device is hard wired, the others can be wireless. Not tried it though - I use a bridge.

Might give that a try now, my Play 5 is hard wired and my Play 1 has just arrived. I shall report back!

I feel like I am following Gaz round the forums at the moment laugh

I also bought a 1 with the 10% Amazon voucher and have no idea what I need it for. If anyone has a bridge that they want to alleviate themselves of, I'm interested (after Gaz, of course) smile

Just tested it and it works perfectly, thanks Podie, just saved me £30 as I was going to buy a bridge.

Make use if the 6 months free google play subscription for a start . Have a look on the Amazon website in regards to how to claim. If you already have a spotify account you can link that up.

I don't use the bridge either.

Connect wired into the router (via cat 5 network) then Play 3 is on the Sonos network.

Works well. If anyone near MK needs a bridge I have one spare...

just to clarify

- at the moment 1 device has to be directly wired to the router - that could be a speaker/bridge/connect etc. the wire could be short or long it doesn't matter. So if your house is CAT5 wired or you want to run a CAT5 wire to another part of the house that is fine. I suspect running a wire, if its not already there, is probably more hassle and possibly more expense than just getting a bridge.

after that they use the wifi network setup by the wired device.

this of course may change with the latest software development allowing the device to run off the router wifi - which I think is in Beta test.

Sonos 1 I find a bit 'thin' with the Sonos 3 not being much better. Sonos 5 is very good and wipes the floor with the 1 and 3.
