I hear on the grape vine and have no idea if true or false that the new company has been offered some sort of funding by Boris Johnson to build electric cars and he wants them built in London but the company has been looking at premises in Blackpool. Also that they are going to build one petrol car and one electric car for R&D....
?I heard that once finished, the new car will replace London's famous "Boris Bikes". Sadly for you and I, the availability of TVRs on every street corner in the capital will lead to hardcore enthusiasts everywhere feeling disenfranchised, leading to calls for the return of Smolenski - if nothing else, at least HE kept the marque niche.
V8GRF you are local like me I know the guy that owns the building they inquired about in Blackpool, he is a wealthy older guy who is not prone to telling porkies that's what he was told, but who knows eh....if it does come to light what he was told is true then them pigs will be crash landing!
I was told the deal with Boris was subject to the cars being made in London, as for the premises I cannot say but the guy did have a meeting with someone from the new company and this is what he was told, no not Oystons. The premises are not a million miles from the old factory as well.

Usually the way these things work is that an 'idea' is put out to the market by a political office and they review who comes snapping for a grant and take it from there.
Hundreds of these come out a year and rarely does much come of them.
It's essentially brainstorming that is sent out into the private sector at an early stage to save time. If no one credible bites then it's not worth 'brainstorming' to the next step.

A British alternative to Tesla could be a good starting point for the reborn TVR? After all the new owners are from an IT background like Elon Musk so aren't stuck in a traditional automotive manufacturing rut.
It would definitely catch the rest of the market napping who are now well and truly established in the traditional TVR market.
A new TVR has no chance in today's market unless they offer something no one else does. A tesla drivetrain in a TVR shell would be a formidable beast.

That's a good argument. Would be a shocker. In more ways than one given TVR's track record with electrics. It would definitely catch the rest of the market napping who are now well and truly established in the traditional TVR market.

I have a sneaky feeling they'll just be launching an old chassis modified to take a wider, off the shelf, cheap v8 and stick a different style body on top and try to hit the market at around current Sag values.
Much else is going to need serious investment and the odds of ever getting the money back are pretty long.
