Servicing offer from my AM Dealer
Discussion
Hi there,
I just wanted some advice as I recently received an email from the AM Dealer I bought my car from last August informing me that the next service is due soon in July (Grange Brentwood)
The offer was for 10% off by booking early.
Is this a good offer?
Has anyone else taken advantage of a similar offer?
It's a 2006 Vantage (MY 2007 model) with 23k miles, so not sure which service it is and how much it will be.
Thanks in advance

I really have no idea what the price is.
Maybe I should just call them.
I just saw the 10% off offer.....Aston don't have fixed menu pricing for servicing do they?
What courtesy car should I expect to get by the way?
Call them and call an indie to compare priceMaybe I should just call them.

10% of lots is still more expensive than a little

I got a quote from Grange Brentwood for around £1300 for an 8th year service on my V8V... does this seem slightly over the top??
I asked if supplying my own oil would bring the cost down, didn't get a straight answer... does anyone know if it does?
Courtesy cars are Jaguar XF's I understand.

What's in the 8th year service is it the major one with plugs?I asked if supplying my own oil would bring the cost down, didn't get a straight answer... does anyone know if it does?

Supplying your own oil will always bring it down but many dealers won't let you

Must admit, that does seem a tad pricey........I asked if supplying my own oil would bring the cost down, didn't get a straight answer... does anyone know if it does?

The 8th year service is clocked in at 4 hours 15, as opposed to 3 hours for a 12 month service. So other than an additional hour 15 in labour, I'd want to know exactly what parts are being replaced for that.
Either way, oil or no oil I bet if you phone round a few places you'll slash that down.

as others have said 10% off what.....dealers charge different prices for the same service ........cant believe anybody would that daft fall for that !
I take a rather perverse view of main dealer costs.
The main dealers I visit have invested in expensively fitted out showrooms with service depts. that once again have invested in the correct equipment and trained technicians.
If everybody was as tight with their money as some posters on here these MD's would not turn the profit they require to make all the effort worthwhile.
We are the owners of a fairly expensive performance car and if we expect all the bells and whistles when making a purchase or an annual service then one pays the price.
It is possible to negotiate a reduced price on the servicing.
Obviously I expect the service from the MD to live up to my expectations,if not I complain,if not satisfied I walk away.

I agree what what you're saying for sure. I am an Aston dealer service victim to (for want of a better word The main dealers I visit have invested in expensively fitted out showrooms with service depts. that once again have invested in the correct equipment and trained technicians.

), and I've always been the same with other marks too, I like the backup of that dealer stamp in the service book. All i'm saying is that haggle and try and play a few of the close dealers off to get the best price.Valid point though, anyone who thought owning these cars would be cheap obviously didn't do much research before buying.

"A recent look at an '06 DB9 by one of the less-sober members on here revealed;
Door locking not correct; likely to be door modules
Satnav screen leaking LCD fluid
Radio intermittent
Oil leaks underneath from front end and sump
I would certainly check all these things as well as condition, especially paintwork. Also take a disinterested mate with you as you will see it, fall in love and moght miss some key things.
This little list added up to a 10k+ spend and the inspection was abandoned at that point as it was a no-go. It went to auction and will be bought by probably a small non-specialist dealer who will endeavor to hide or repair cheaply as many of those parts as possible. Such is the trade. You take a risk buying from outsde the main dealer network but that can be mitigated by a pre-purchase inspection. Yes it'll cost you a few hundred but its a tiny part of a 34k spend.
This car had a full service history; HOWEVER buyer beware. There are two ways of looking after a performance car (or any car really). You can do everything as soon or before it's an issue, or you can wait if it's not crucial, save some money and pass the problem to the next owner. If the car hasnt been looked after with money no object (as it should) by a loving owner then problems can manifest. It's a 9 year old car regardless of mileage.
Good luck"
The car had 8 main dealer stamps. My DBS goes to an indie now and always will as will the new one

Thank you for your comments.
I knew when buying the car that it would require annual servicing, but I personally feel that there should be uniform pricing amongst all the approved Aston dealers.
I am perfectly willing to pay the prices, I just feel that those prices are quite high.
I won't take it to an independent, as I bought the car from Grange Brentwood and will take it there for servicing.
They know the car and I'm sure the service will be excellent.
My original point was regarding the email offer, so now I know to just call and arrange it in the normal way.
