Noobs and requests

It's getting a bit common isn't it? I would go out my way to welcome new folk to the site that get involved with runs and meets etc but it is getting quite common for someone new to come on asking for quite a big favour. Examples being asking for wedding car help when they have no previous history on the site or vote for my friend for xyz. I'm not trying to make out this is a time served club but the very nature of being into cars is that you have made some sort of effort be it working hard for a supercar, or building your own track car to even skimping to run a £1000 hot hatch because you are a petrol head.

Yes it's just in case the OP deletes it, and all the other quoters do - I can still come back and read it.I really think there should be a site policy that does not allow the original post to be quoted more than once on the first page. People who are the very first to reply and quote a hundred-line first post are really quite irritating, as are those who continue to quote it when it's already done for posterity...

Anyway. To answer the OP's question (look, see how you know what I'm talking about without me quoting it yet again?!), I haven't seen a particular rise in newcomers asking for favours, but whether I mind or not depends on the request.
I'm more than happy to offer what advice I can, I love cars and I'm always keen to help anyone who needs it, eg mechanical emergency. It's not like it costs me anything.
People coming in as new members and asking for real-world favours, well, that depends.. if it's a presumption that things should be offered around freely then they can usually sod off but this seems very rare. Sometimes it's for a very good cause or sometimes it's just to use PH as a method of finding someone you're willing to pay for their time.

The way I see it, is if you're new to a forum and need help the least you can do is introduce yourself slightly and actually make an effort to get people to help you out. Nowadays most new users (most tend to be under the age of 22) seem to just log in and demand an immediate answer 
Best one on one of the RS forums recently was a 1st post new joiner demanding other owners give him exact details & location of the Cat 1 alarm box and siren in a Mk1 Focus RS and what the best way of disabling the siren was, if it was sounding after opening a door
This was shortly followed by another post asking users to private message him the instructions on how to code a new alarm fob & key so that it unlocks/locks/starts the car
