Pondering my first TAG Heuer Carrera
Discussion
I'm about to leave a job I've been at for a while and as a present to myself I'm going to get a watch. I know there are a lot of opinions on which brand are considered the engineering kings and which ones are best overall but quite simply I like the look of the Carreras and they feel right on my wrist. Not particularly drowning in research but there you go.
Here's the one I'm looking at:

I'm here to ask for some ownership tips and your experiences of owning items that cost more than one of my Subarus. One bonus is that I'm getting this for a good discount through a friend who works closely with TAG themselves so at the very least it'll always appreciate, but I can't see me parting with it.
Thx
David

I've got a soft spot for Tag Carrera's, but I echo what everyone else has said, it wont even hold its money let alone appreciate. Discount wise, aim for between 10-15% at a jeweler, TAG themselves restrict what they can be sold for apparently. The only watch brand I know that will appreciate is a Rolex.
These go for about a grand to 1200 second hand second hand, and at a grand they are a very nice watch indeed; decent 7750 movement (although not chronometer grade, heaven forbid TAG spent money on quality), nice case, great history.
I had one, literally never wore it, flogged it back to the original owner.
Nice and weighty though and a good looking piece. At close to 50% discount that's a nice buy (unless the RRP is staggering) but please don't be so blinkered as to think it will appreciate in value inside 10-15 years. It won't.

I'm obviously looking in the wrong areas, but where could one find a Tag, like this, for a grand to 1200?I had one, literally never wore it, flogged it back to the original owner.

As an everyday work watch, this would be great.
Thanks
I can't believe these are retailing for over £3K now, I bought mine about 6 years ago for £1300 with a discount. It seems like nobody bothered to tell Tag there has been a recession and low inflation the last few years!!
Putting the price aside it's a nice watch and I've had no issues with it, It probably only gets worn about twice a year though.

Go vintage Heuer, drop the TAG, speak with Thomas at Heuer heritage

Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it. I'm getting it on a near 50% discount and not from a jewlers thankfully. When I say appreciate I should have really said not lose me money on what I'll pay but I could handle a few hundred pounds drop over several years
I'll take a look at the link above too.
