Hi,

A couple of weeks ago I decided to give my exhaust a well deserved clean after 9 years of grime build up. They were fairly black with a lot of baked on crap.
So after a fair bit of research decided to go for 0000 grade wire wool and autosol metal polish.

After a fair bit of elbow grease they came up very nice and shiny, apart from the actual ends of the exhaust, which were still rough (as per pictures) and no matter how hard I scrubbed I couldn't get them nicely flat & shiny so they shredded my microfibre cloths to pieces. I decided they would do as from a distance they looked the part.

However, within days they were mostly black again, PLUS there now appears to be rust on the tip ends of the exhaust?!? Have I removed a protective layer or something? from my research nobody ever mentioned this? Any idea what I should be doing next to stop this happening? See last video for rust - might be hard to spot though but can see brown.

PS as a side note - what should I do to get my rear wiper nice and black again? PS.S Is there something missing from my M sport gear knob in the middle?

Start:

End results:

Damage/What I couldn't get off which has now rusted:

Gear Knob:

Rear WIper:

Rust:

Thanks for any help guys

Looks to me like corrosion, not dirt and detriment....sadly.
