I've recently brought a 52 plate Mini cooper S (After market John Cooper Works) Got it very cheap as the supercharger was wining excessively. The supercharger has now completely died on me (as expected) So have began looking for a replacement. I though the JCW didn't effect the supercharger at all and that it would be the same factory fitted one that The mini cooper S was built with. But as I've started looking i'm not sure. Could someone please explain what supercharger I need to replace, M25 M55 etc?

M45. I think the JCW used a slightly improved version with ceramic coated screws... or something. The S version of the M45 is commonly fitted as a kit to MX5s now as they are quite common on eBay and the like with Mini owners upgrading to the JCW kit.

The works supercharger is different to the standard S one, can't help with part no though plenty of online sources will list it.

I can help.

The works was the same supercharger but with just an 11% pulley.

Yours being pre facelift won't be a Teflon rotor, but I can't remember if Jcws were all Teflon.

Either way, there is a guy on Minitorque selling brand new superchargers, I think with JCW 11% pulley, the later Teflon coated for £550.

eBay will turn up used and reconditioned £300-£500.

I'd buy anew one off this chap for peace of mind.

I havnt had one of him, bit load of folks have. I fancy one in the future though wink.

all JCWs were teflon IIRC, except maybe the first year.

Only facelifted cars (54 plate onwards) were Teflon coated.

JCW's just had 11% reduced pulleys.

Don't pay over the odds for a JCW supercharger, try to get a later Teflon coated one even with a standard pulley. Chuck a -15% pulley on it for good measure.

I've ran a -17% pulley for the last 40k miles with no issues.

I seem to remember that the JCW's were always 5th gen (teflon coated) M45's.

I wouldn't worry to much about if it has or hasn't Teflon coating. You wold only be talking a few horses

So get a low mileage one then fit a 15% or 17% pully, you would then be far better off
