Honda Civic EK9 Discs
Discussion
Mods apologies I placed this first in the Honda section, but no response I wanted to get some input before I pick up the parts tonight.
GF's sister had her 08 Honda Civic MOT'd at Halfords Autocenter yesterday.
On the way the brake pad indicator kicked in which on civics is called a squealer and is a piece of metal rubbing against the discs to say the pads need changing.
On the MOT they mentioned the discs have a slight lip on the them. I was checked online and it seems the minimum thickness for discs is 21mm. They offered to do all 4 pads and discs for around £400.
Question is what is the normal lifetime of discs? Can i get away with replacing the pads, or should i do the discs as well? On inspection the discs look ok, but I wont know untill Sunday when I can jack the car up and remove the wheels.

If it's a 2008 Honda it's not an 'EK9' (that was a much older model). I'm no longer sufficiently Hondanerdy to tell you what the chassis code is for that model.
What I can tell you is that going onto Euro Car Parts website or some such other supplier will yield a whole set of brake disks and pads for relative pennies and a friendly Inday garage should fit them for not too much cash.
A brief look tells me rear disks for the 1.8 are £20 each, fronts £28 and pads about the same as disks for a set. So for £145 you can get the parts. I imagine you could get them bought and fitted for less than £250.

That's a huge amount if money. Parts should be about £150 and I bet an independent will fit them for £100 or less.
Yep - OP that is shocking. My last (2010) Type R had pattern parts fitted just before I sold it, cost about £100 from memory! (This was discounted a tad though)

I never fit new pads on old discs. But them I'm a DIYer so the labour savings get spent on more new parts.
You are wasting your time and money. Discs are normally good for at least two sets of pads (under normal use).Op - a small lip is fine, but a deep lip with other grooves on the disc would see me replacing them.

Pads it is then.
