Get ready for a huge amount of fun. Make sure you take it to your local mechanic for a service ASAP, this will give you a good baseline. Its important to manage your expectations with a car of this age. They are a huge amount of fun and certainly a real head turner, don't bother with the stereo because the exhaust sounds SO GOOD! No matter what the insurance will be high, mine is £500 so let me know if you get a low one.
Thanks. I was pleasantly surprised by the nice exhaust burble on test drive. I read a report in one of the big classic mags saying the 928s are "boring" and " lack involvement". Not my experience at all. My best quote so far is less than 200 quid but it's off a comparison site so I'll let you know if it's as good as it sounds soon!
Always been a favourite if mine and I will have one soon! I've been a passenger in a few and I could never describe them as boring... I think (in the autos) that EFFORTLESS torque that in slow traffic never means more than 2000ish revs and then floor it when clear does it for me every time. Fantastic car - if you've got a good one I guess!!
I'm relatively new to Porsche having only had a boxster previously. I've had several tvr's and mg's but I struggle to understand why the 928s appear to be so relatively undervalued. I see the attraction of the air cooled models but the 928 appears to be a superbly resolved car for very modest money (I appreciate running costs may be on the high side!). I'll post some pics ASAP.
Welcome to the club - I have a GTS - fantastic cars - docile around town, animals when you want and designed to cover huge distances at speed and in comfort. The secret bit is that they have perfect weight distribution, which means they are even fun in the sinews, but more A road than B road.
Get on to the 928.org.uk mailing list if you haven't already - a mine of info and help ready and waiting.
