Taking out new policy before renewal.

Hi, first time poster. I've lurked for months, but I've finally got something to post about! I cannot find any info on this anywhere, heyho -

My insurance renewal is due on the 10th of June. I've just bought a car today, and I'm wondering now I've got proof of my NCB, can I now take out another policy with another company with said NCB before the renewal date?

change it over with your current company. Start new policy from the 10th.

If they want to charge you silly amounts to swap cars, just start a new policy and end the current one and ask for your NCD.

However if your current insurer won't insure your new car then you may be forced to start a new policy and forfeit that years NCB by cancelling it before the full term (or keep the old policy running to its end but I'm not sure that is legal?)

Might have better to have asked insurance company for their take. I've changed cars shortly after renewal to get "no charge sir,you've only just renewed". it's like all other things with them ( and it's mostly brokers rather than companies), some charge more for some things. Present broker charges intro charge of £10, last one with a seabird in it's add wanted £20 .

I'm calling Aviva in the morning. Changing my car online forces me to the renewal process. Besides, I've got a cheaper quote from quotemehappy.com (which is actually an Aviva company), so I could probably haggle them down too.

Quotemehappy is actually really easy for stuff like this - changing cars mid policy. As it is all online, you can login edit car and then enter your new reg. It will then recalc your quote and either you make a payment or get a refund and it's done!
