Hello Everyone,

I am looking for some advice on buying a 911 Carrera.

There is such a large number of cars out there I want to make sure I get the right one.

So far I think I want to get a 911 carrera 4s, tiptronic, 4wd, 2006 to avoid the large road tax. I wand to get a low mile example and have around 29k to spend.
Is there editions that I should be looking out for?
What would the model be called with all the above included?
Is there much point to the Targa model? I am 6'3" and want to fit fine in the car, can anyone say there is lots of head room?

Any help would be great

Regards Paul.

Simples - 996 Turbo!
With your budget of £29k should get you a nice example.
Bit more expensive than a C4s but I bet if you drove them side to side you'd need little more convincing.

Personally I wouldn't be able to put the 996 and 997 in the same list of possibilities because of the interior. The 997 has a much more modern interior and the outside looks more modern also. If you're not hung up about these things then you could get a very nice 996 turbo.

I'm not sure why people are put off by the 4wd system, I have it in my turbo and I had a Carrera S before and the handling is much better and the way it drives in general.

Like others have said I wouldn't get hung up on the tax, you are spending a lot of money on a car and in comparison the tax us not much at all. It's annoying to have to pay it but if you get hung up on it you could pass over a. Great car in your price range for the sake of saving £250.

I get hung up on tax owning 3 car

if all 3 were £480 that's £120 a month just on the tax disk.
2nd hand this high TAX kills resale once cars are cheaper as it's a whole new market/buyer.
Def one thing I look at when buying cars and none of mine are in the high tax band.

I was looking for a 996 Turbo but could not find a good one. Bought a 2006 997 C4S. Glad I did, the 996 are old cars and the 997 is definitely a step up in terms of technology and modernity. If you up your budget slightly you might find one at an OPC and get the two year warranty as I did. It gives you peace of mind for the know engine woes.
