Amiablechimp's Mazda CX-7

Paid a deposit on my new motor today. Finally got fed up driving my Mondeo Estate shed (although still say the heated seats are the best I've tried!) and have been looking on Autotrader for weeks now at various 4x4s.
Looked at Discoverys, Merc Ml, X5, Q7s,Touaregs, and loads more but, with not needing a car for work just now, putting £20k I to something that will sit on the drive 5 days a week didn't sit right with me.
I've looked at CX-7s before but the newer diesel ones. Then this popped up in a dealer in Perth and the price seemed OK so went for a test drive today.
Loved it! The combination of 4x4 ride height, loads of kit (heated leather, 9 speaker Bose sound system, cruise, auto lights & wipers, xenons) and 260bhp worked it's magic and I pick it up next Sat
It's a 2008 car, 2 previous owners and 41k on the clock. Got a year's mot, 6 mths warranty and 6 months tax for £8,366 after a wee bit haggling.
OK it's £485 a year tax and I'll be lucky to see 25mpg but at that price, for all that car, I'll live with that!

Oh, and £500 remap sees it up to 295bhp mwah ha ha.

One thing that was bothering me, the car has only done 10k in the last 26 months so it's been sitting a lot. Due to this, the paintwork had bloomed in places but I was confident I could bring it back - just needed time and with today being Father's day...;)

Now I just need to get an issue with headlamp condensation on the NS sorted - booked back into the supplying dealers next Saturday for a look.

Nice choice, I toyed with one of these for a family bus but went with an RX300 in the end as the ride was a little better. That said the motor was close to swinging the deal in favour of the CX-7. Would be interested in what you get as real world economy, I struggle into better 28mpg in mine even on a run (and I do 16k per year!)
Used to have one of these as a family wagon. LOVED it but unfortunately do too many miles for the petrol version.
Diesel version coming down in price nicely though so may opt for one of them when my current trusty wagon needs replacing!
I always considered mine like a poor mans range rover sport. Great all rounder!

Currently averaging 24.9mpg but not doing many miles, mostly short local journeys.

I did toy with the idea of replacing it,but decided I can't think of a decent reason why so going to keep hold.
As a treat (I've been spending all my spare cash on the Eunos recently) I had the alloys refurbished today by the Wheel Specialist in Edinburgh.
Went for anthracite & really chuffed with the outcome. Changes the look of the car nicely imo.
