Any ideas?
In your last thread you feared an intermittent faulty coil.If it is faulty, much of the injected fuel will not be burning inside the combustion chambers, therefore simply going through the exhaust system to the tail pipe, with a strong smell of fuel in the atmosphere thereabouts.
Now asking for 'new ideas'. I don't see the point, if you did not perform the simple coil test suggested.
Suppose the coil IS faulty, then a new idea is not needed.
IF the coil is NOT faulty, then you can move on to fresh ideas.
If you cannot carry out the test suggested, lets say, not knowing where to find the bits, here is an even simpler test.
- Remove the king lead from the distributor
- connect it to a spark plug,
- lay the plug on the engine,
- crank the engine and look for nice fat sparks at the spark plug.
- If you've got 'em, you'll know the coil is OK.
- If they are weak and intermittent,
- then move back to the earlier coil test suggested to eliminate the other ignition components.
If so the forum can suggest comprehensive sources of information to study.
If the technicalities are beyond you then I am at a loss what to suggest, because there are so many possibilities to your overpowering smell of petrol, you probably need to find a local expert/friend/garage - especially if its a petrol leak.

Ah right, I guess it would make sense then, didn't think a dodgy coil would create that symptom! If it is faulty, much of the injected fuel will not be burning inside the combustion chambers, therefore simply going through the exhaust system to the tail pipe, with a strong smell of fuel in the atmosphere thereabouts.

Thanks very much again mate, I'm going to put a new coil on anyway, then I'm absolutely sure,
If it persists, it's going to the experts I think.
Thanks again for your help mate.
