Hi Chaps,
My old man has one of these and needs 4 new tyres on her.
Any recommendations ?
Am pretty sure he has Michelins on the front and some dodgy budget types on the back at present and he has been getting quite a bit of road noise (that may be the cords hanging out of them though!)
I suggested he goes for whatever were fitted out of the factory as Merc are unlikely to fit noisy tyres to their cars
Any one know what the standard fitment was or have any other recommendations ?
The default choice is Michelin Primacy HP, and, if you like, the MO (Mercedes Option) version.
Mercedes uses lots of different makes though. Mine (I have a C Class estate) came with Bridgestone Turanza's and they weren't even the MO version. They were like iron rings and I was glad to get shut of them.
Oddly, changing the rears, which wore out first, didn't make much difference to noise or ride, but changing the fronts made a noticeable difference, especially to noise levels.

Is the car an S212 (Square headlamps) or S211 (round headlamps)?
Both cars would have been fitted with various tyres, not just one specific type throughout the production life of the vehicle.
My S212 came with Conti 3's. Good tyre, always felt secure and ran for around 30-40k miles (mixed and motorway) with leisurely driving. Replaced these with Conti 5's (new model tyre) with similar results. Picked up a second hand set of wheels fitted with OE Pirelli Cintauro, these don't feel as sure footed as the Conti's and don't appear to be lasting quite as long, though they are not too bad.
Some cars are fitted OE with Michelin's or Goodyear Efficient Grip. Having read good things about the Goodyears, I'm going to try those next (fronts need changing in the next couple of weeks).
Always get the XL rated tyres for the estate, and look for the MO fitment for OE type tyres.

Only if it specifies them - C Class estate doesn't. If they're not specified then the tyre pressures will be wrong - XL tyres have a lower load rating at "normal" tyre pressures than non-XL tyres. N
Hi I have a 2009 W211 (oval headlights) E280 Estate Sport.
It came on Continental ContactSport (Mercedes fitment) which is the extra load spec.
I found they were very vulnerable to sidewall damage and they are useless in the snow. I now have Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme which I use summer and winter. Very happy with them.

Models changed in 2009, hence the original question to the OP. Not sure why C class owners feel the need to advise or correct those who know.

I find it bizzare that you attack me, yet admit in the same post that you're not sure if all models are the same. It may also vary by tyre size fitted.N
Your direction to "always fit XL tyres on the estate" is potentially extremely dangerous.

You do need to get the load index right - it'll probably be 95 for a standard tyre and 99 for an XL. I don't think Contact 5 Premium, 225/55/16, is available in XL. If the car doesn't need XL then obviously that's OK.

XL rated tyres should be used for the S212 estate.
To the OP, do you have the handbook? It will state in the back of the handbook the recommended tyres for the engine and model configuration of the car.
