Speeding in France - points on UK licence?

Chaps,

A >ahem< friend of mine was done for speeding yesterday in France. No names, no pack drill. 90EUR fine and had to give his details to the nice Monsieur Le Flic in the back of a Gendarme police van.

Googling the issue suggests that there is no consequence for his UK licence; is this the case?

Out of curiosity, are there any plans to make such points go onto UK licences? I know things have been mooted in the past but didn't get anywhere, but is there anything definite in the future?

There is a small item on this in today's Sunday Telegraph. It seems the UK opted out of EU legislation for motoring fines etc to "follow you home". It does, however, mean that should you go back you will be billed, and can be taken to court.

Aforementioned friend was caught and fined on the spot - not a camera job. Helpful though, thanks.

Any idea what the bands are? Friend was doing 132kph in a 90kph limit.
