French Toll Tags
Discussion
I have purchased a 'Liber-t' electronic tag for the road trip through France next week and the instructions and website state that it should be placed in the 'Mottled/Shaded Area' behind the rear view mirror. This is because some vehicles have a 'Heat reflective metallic coating' but it doesn't go over the 'Mottled/Shaded Area'. The problem is that my 2007 DB9 doesn't have a 'Mottled/Shaded Area'.
As you can see from the website extract below it advises that I contact the manufacturer to find out the Toll Tag should be positioned. Has anyone used the electronic toll tag on a DB9 and if so where did you place it to make sure it worked OK?
Equipment occupying all the mottled area?
The mottled / shaded area behind the rear view mirror will be free of any heat reflective metallic coating that is sometimes applied to the glass in the factory to reflect the sun and keep the car cool on a hot day. The tag must go in the mottled area as it is free of any heat reflective coating, so the signal to it is not blocked by the metallic coating on the glass.
In situations like this we have had it reported back to us by customers who have such vehicles that fixing the tag on the middle of the plastic casing of the equipment that is occupying the mottled/shaded area has been successful.
However our recommendation is that you contact your vehicle manufacture and ask them to key in your registration number and check if you have a heat reflective windscreen fitted, if you do then you should ask the dealer where in the screen your toll road tags should be positioned so it can be read if no mottled area has been provided for toll road tags.

We had quite a few of these on the JLC trip. Anywhere at the top of the windscreen worked. I was in a 2007 V8V without a mottled area and it was fine mounted close to the rear view mirror. I'd suggest either your pasemger if you have one holds the tag up or use blutack to attach the tag. Otherwise you'll break the mounting getting it off again.

Yup, holding them up works, much better than mounting especially if you discover you've mounted it in such a way that you can't extract the tag as it is blocked by the mirror- mentioning no names....

^^^^^This^^^^^Worked fine in my DB9. Stuck it just to the right (driver side) of the rear view mirror..
No need to break it to get it off.. Unless of course Yeti or RobGT advise of the placement

My sanef tag bracket is already there, courtesy of the previous owner (and fitted correctly I might add)

I fitted mine to the left of the mirror so its out of MY line of sight BUT obviously left enough room to remove the tag from its bracket. Who would be silly enough to get THAT wrong

Robgt very kindly helped me fit mine while we were on the Eurotunnel.
I forgot Robgt is a fool though (in the nicest possible way
), therefore it's fitted the wrong way round and can't be removed without snapping it off - they slide in and out in theory, but not if your mirror is in the way.
Very useful though and makes me look like an international playboy

I haven't bothered to stick the holder to the windscreen but just put the tag on the dash as I approach the peage and it works fine. I would recommend never leaving the tag in view when you are not in the car - its a pretty attractive thing to a thief. Even having the holder stuck to the screen suggests there is a tag in the car and might tempt some chancer.

Its fitted the correct way up and will slide out to the right as the bracket is designed to do BUT I did leave sufficient room to get it out past the mirror.

You can of course mount it up the other way so that is slides out to the left of the bracket, away from the mirror.Anyway, broke the last bracket getting it off the windscreen, so duck tape this time for me?
