Hi,

I've noticed one of the rear number plate screws have fallen out of my car. Also one of the front screws are loose. The number plate screw holes seem to have become enlarged and now the screws don't tighten into the fibreglass.

So, what's the best way of repairing the holes? I don't want to just use a larger screw as the screw head won't fit into the coloured screw covers.

Also, am I supposed to seal the rear number plate (backlit plate on a 1997 Chimaera) so no water gets behind it? What's best to use?

Thanks,

Dan

Fill the holes up with some 2pack glue or resin then redrill the holes or relocate two new holes

Filled mine with body filler and re drilled the holes. Now a tight fit.

Put some rivnuts in, makes a far neater fix IMHO, or even a wellnut.

If you do go the rivnut, don't make the fit too tight as you don't want to crack the fibreglass.

There's not much surface area to stick the pads to on the TVR though, do they stay on?

Yep, mine are held on by tape and the front one was still attached the front end I ripped off in my accident so yes they stay on if you use good quality tape.......

I just stuck rawl plugs in the holes for the front plate. That was nearly 8 years ago, holding up fine so far.

Perhaps not the route I would take with a customer’s car but this has merits for both effectiveness and simplicity.

I fitted this type of insert for my cerb rear plate. Just file the screw holes square to allow the plug to be fitted. Neat and tidy.
