Morning all,
Just thought i'd post a few recent steam pics that i've taken this year smile This year and also last has all been about celebrating Mallards 75th year of taking the speed record for a steam loco, an impressive 126mph down Stoke bank. So with this in mind we have done a few charters featuring the A4's, these were both taken during a Neil Cave photocharter at Barrow Hill

Another superb event i attended this year, was the Once in a Blue Moon staged at Didcot, it bought together 3 BR blue livered locos for the first time in nearly 50 years, we had 6023 King Edward II, 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley and new boy 60163 Tornado. Again another night shoot from Neil Cave resulted in some pleasing images smile

Moving on to the smaller locos now we had another charter this time down at the South Devon Railway using Collett Goods, 3205 in recently lined BR Green, and wow did she look superb!

And finally one more from last year taken at Didcot here we see 6023 King Edward II soaking up the last of the suns rays

If you have any feedback on the images i'd love to hear from you, good or bad it can only help me to improve smile

Your train stuff is very good, but from what I recall it doesn't seem to translate into cars!

That's what I thought. Stick to trains! You are very good at it and clearly have passion for them.

Your most striking work seems to be done at night with long exposures and off-camera flash/other lighting. So maybe apply that formula to cars?

Wonderful photographs, well done.
Have you seen the work of O Winston Link?
For me the beauty lies in the black and white medium - and funnily enough, his colour work was nowhere near as spectacular.
Evocative beasts steam locomotives!

simpo, cheers buddy, yeah i have planned a shoot using a pair of Ducati 848's coming up in about a weeks time, these will be shot at night with off camera flash, so be a fun shoot, hoping to learn a lot from it smile

sjwb, thank you smileAnd yep very familier with Mr Link, they man is the holy grail of night time railway photography, i would like to attempt it one day, using a series of flash guns going off to light up the image in the style he used to do. I think it would work better on a larger loco, and of course have the crews permission smile

Added a few more photos to Flickr let me know what you all think smile

Love the nighttime shots.
Lighting large objects evenly is tough, how did you go about it?

many thanks mate,

Credit has to go to photographer Neil Cave for setting up the lights, although i am learning off him at every event we go to, floodlit using two maybe three lights, key is not to over do it, and try and use where natural light would be coming in from smile

All the best

That's weird, I'm sure I posted on here and had a response from the OP about a site listing main line specials, but both have gone now. Did I imagine the whole thing? Anyway, love the nighttime shots, especially those in the shed.

Ah, got it now. I posted in the thread in "Planes, Boats and Trains" board. As you were everyone.
