Hi All,
Thought I'd post up pics of my new car. Purchased for a European road trip in June, but also because it was a bit of a steal! It's a titanium silver 335D Touring with pretty much all the options - Pan Roof, logic 7, pro nav, memory seats etc. I've had the chance to drive quite a few 3.0tdis, e350s, a5 3.0tdi, SQ5 etc, and the 335D seriously impresses. It's relentless above 60! Bloody juicy though. Needs a few jobs (privacy glass, alloys are corroding a tad, maybe a remap) but happy with it for now. Done over 100k but 1 owner before me that I've known for years, and full BMW history. Get some strange looks driving it around at uni - not a conventional student car - and a lot of abuse at work! (I work for Mercedes). At this age, I don't think the a4 or c class come close for engine tech and general quality.

Cheers gents. All personally funded but unusual. They are very 'dad' cars (the Saab is green with beige!) but I'm finding the torque of the 335 addictive. It's relentless
Have to admit I haven't done that, to be fair I'm not sure what that is! What am I checking for (thanks for the heads up!)

Cracking car, and very unusual spec, finding a 335d tourer with decent spec is a job in itself.
I should never have sold mine.
The thermostats on these are a weak point, they stay open over time and allow the engine to run cooler than the optimum temperature, which kills mpg, and doesn't allow regeneration of the DPF
There's the main stat and EGR stat, factor in around £120 for parts to replace them
Google E90 Hidden menu, this will allow you to access your coolant temperature, anything below 88-92 degrees when the car is in normal use age requires the thermostats replacing
If it's "juicy" I'm willing to bet they need done, my last 335 needed done as the mpg wasn't great, after the thermostats, and a remap it gained around 7mpg

Martin, massive thanks for that. I'll do that in this morning, it does seem to be ludicrously thirsty. It's my 4th car of this year (I have an addiction) and I'm hoping to keep it a bit longer so worthwhile getting it up to scratch. Since it's been new the only problem the guy had with it (bought from a friend of my dads) was a faulty door lock - pretty good having said that, it's probably due a s
t load of work now! Have you got any pics of your old one? What was the spec?

If they've not been done id bet they're leaking slightly, you'll probably see some oil haze on the red pipe.
You don't need the whole new design pipe, you can just buy the seals on their own that fit in your pipe for a few quid.
That made a huge difference to the response of mine..
And as said above the 'stats too.. When I drive home from having mine done it regenerated for probably the first time in years.. It absolutely stunk! But must of caught it in time as it was faultless after.. I'd say my mpg improved around 3-4mpg.

Cracking student car, and I know how hard they are to come buy. I bought my E91 about 3 years ago, and I really wanted a 335 i/d in the right spec for me, but just couldn't find anything. Ended up with a 330i with a decent spec, and now a few modifications.
Great cars for versatility, not the biggest or fastest etc, but all round, a great packing that is very flexible. Well done for running one as a student!

Thanks for the info about the seals on the boost pipe, I'll check that too. Is there anything else to look out for?
I've averaged 35.4mpg over the last 2000 odd miles - it isn't bad but considering most of this was on the motorway too and from Uni, at 65-75, it's not great! Thanks for the comments, they do seem rare. Think the Nav really lifts the cabin. Agreed on the exhausts, looks so much more purposeful with the split. I need to get down to a SS with it.

Because of the autobox being old (by modern stds) and only 6 speeds, a lot of normal hypermiling techniques are impossible to use. However, if you are very very gentle with the accelerator, and closely use the "swingometer" instant fuel econ gauge to limit your pedal imputs, you can get good economy on long runs:
Bigger exhaust tips definitely make the most of the holes in the diffuser, and make it look at lot more purposeful. A few subtle modifications make it a really nice looking car IMO.

@max_torque that's an impressive figure. Shall try to do that a bit more. Probably sounds ludicrous trying to get economy from a 335 - my driving is either flat out or as economical as possible, trying to run it on a student budget. Not expecting it be lik a 320D (I bought it for the performance!) but if I can exude more mpg when it's being used simply as a lugging tool, then happy days.
007singh - that looks cracking! Love the black 5 spokes - definitely liking the look of the bigger pipes too. It's a shame mine is silver (I think they look a lot better in darker colours) but I might just have to get bigger pipes!
@goldenballs13 it's a 2.0T s-line with 50k from new. Lovely little car! It can't keep pace with the zim zimmer though :P
