Windscreen mesh removal?
Discussion
Hi guys, I've been chasing water leaks, if the car is left in the rain I then get a soaker on my right foot as go into the first left hand corner, it's like a cup full?
It must be getting in through the windscreen rubber ( guess)
I've pulled the rubber from O/S wing and it's very loose,
Is it just a case of drilling out rivets, removing wiper arms etc and pulling it away from the window base!
The rubber seal looks like it will just pull away from window base, I'm thinking of some mastic, a new rubber and sqweeze together to make a good seal.
Before I damage a good car has anyone any tips and hazards I should avoid doing this very important job, I can't be doing with getting soakers at my age!!
Thanks in advance Al

Didn't mean the angry face, can't delete it!??!!!?
Anyway this is a happy thread, I like leaning how to look after my car, I noticed my pedal box is rusting from all the water!
Bit of a nasty job but if it works/ helps, it's with doing.
I also have a hankering for a stainless Mesh!!!!!
Wonder if you can get one or if I can use the original as a template. I digress!!!

Hi mate, don't worry about angry smilies as we all have our moments [I should know].
I've heard that 'Power' offer a replacement mesh, something I want to look into especially as it may be more bling. As for the leak, have you checked the cable inlets on the inner wing? [holes drilled and filled with silicone]as this is where I had a water leak on my first Griff' back in '99 which rsulted in damp carpets and rusty pedals etc.

Hi Mac, thank f
k your back, we need all the dedication we can on here, lol.
I'll bell them first thing.
I'm thinking of doing all the seals and mastic in one go! The idea of the mesh is to have something to see for handling all that nasty black sticky stuff!
My door and roof seals are all tired so it would be nice to make a better job!
So where does it get in through the inner wing, I've never ventured so can't picture it!
Where cables and piping come through you mean?
I'd want to do the windscreen now simply to help stop delamination, hang on,,,,,,
I could do with a new screen, here I go again!

Buttonit, that's why these threads are so good, some guys can just take the good advice and store it until they need it, keeping water out has to be a huge priority,,,, that's why I've left it for so long, some jobs seem to Phaze me for months then I get some advice and happily do a good job. Makes me proud of me the car and feel this huge sence of relief we have this amazing site and some number 1 people. It makes owning the car a bigger buzz.
You can stand there with loads of other guys and often they may well have helped you keep running, it's the part I like the most, the support of eachother. We all know the pain a Tvr can give us.
It's so indoctorinated that if a fuse goes were in a huge panic and presume the cars died and YOUR responsible. Not logical but the hearts pounding and the bloods flowing in turmoil then we find it's just the 100A fuse.
By getting to learn about the car I've relaxed those myths a bit. Not much but a bit, eeee it's a laugh on here. Alun

These cars can get a hold on you sometimes and make it personal.
Yes, on the offside inner wing it can get in via the throttle cable, bonnet release cable or brake servo hose. Mine was through the bonnet release cable [easy job to rectify] as the water seemed to cling to the cable with capillary action and it had a downward route to footwell. Or if on the near side it can get in via the heater hose grommets [not such an easy job]. It's even sometimes depending on how you park! [car pointing up/down or leaning left/right] Only from personal experience I might add, and were oddly enough on my previous two Griffs and I've had no such issues with my present Chimaera. That aside if it is the windscreen seal, well that's another story.

Exactly the same scenario as me... milky bottom corner of screen? If you look on the drivers wing inside the bonnet you'll see the rubber grommets, brake fluid reservoir and the inspection hatch for clutch fluid. All of these are identified ingress points into the drivers footwell. I redid my brake reservoir with a bit of left over sikaflex from another job, because it had cracked all the way round and had gaping holes. Still need to do the other bits, but like you, would like to get the screen bottom done as well. I have a swimming pool in my footwell some times
Mm, the cables etc seem water tight to me, the inspection hatch could be the culprit as that's the only seal looking thin.
It's time I got brave and cut the mastic away and had a look.
So the mesh panel, could you replace the bottom window rubber with mesh still in place.
I helped a mate rivet the floor in his Westfirld, every hole had a dab of mastic before rivets applied so that's what I'd do this time round with replacing the mesh.
I want a flashy mesh! Plonker Rodney and all that but I can't help it !!!!
