I'm at a very torn moment

Current car: 111S Type 25, adore it, very eye catching ,well spec'd, Larini exhaust fitted, done a couple of track days 'BIG SMILES'

However.........

The 111R is very tempting. Better spec'd, well regarded.

THE QUESTION: WHICH WILL BE WORTH MORE IN THREE YEARS TIME - The limited edition
Or the top of the range?

Dealers comments (especially) welcome.

Limited edition specifications adds very little to the value, so yours will only be worth around what the eqivalent 111S is worth.

So the 111R will with out question be worth more, as it will obviously be a newer, higher specification car. So I think the question you need to ask yourself is if you can justify the extra expenditure for even bigger smiles

Like mustard says re Type-25 depreciation.

A spanking new 111S can be had for £26k, so even if yours is one of the latest 04’s, you gotta be looking at a minimum of +£7k to change for a +£30k Touring Packed 111R.

Sure, a 111R will depreciate a bit less than your car over similar time, but not £7k less. Changing won’t save you money, but it will be fun.

If you want it, and can make it happen, then HAVE IT!!!

went through this a couple of months ago and from even a standard 120bhp s2, the 111r was not 'different' enough, certainly at road speeds.

Driving the 111r convinced me to keep my current car until it dies and spend some cash on a ptp170. Will probably do suspension/wheels early next year. For me that's still cheaper than losing the initial depreciation on another new car.

cheers

With a lot of consideration, the 111R may have more performance on the track, but I'm not going to see much difference on the road, and I only track a couple of times a year.

I bought the Type 25 (partly) for it's head turning capability (not a subtle paint-job!!) and to be very shallow, I'd hate to lose that.

All your advice is appreciated, and I think I'll stick to my 111s. Cheers

Spend the extra £7k on driver training! - You'll be overtaking 111r and Exiges all day long!

I've had driver training from Alastair McQueen at Hethel. Fantastic day, exhausting, but I learnt a lot. I think I made major progress, going from 'clueless' right up to 'cr4p but optimistic'

I LOVE the type 25 paint job. As far as I am concerned it the best a lotus has ever looked. I could not forgive the lack of power (relative). This is my personal opinion and has nothing to do with depreciation or future value but I went for the 111R and had a paint job done to match the stripes on the type 25. Electric Blue 111R with white stripes to the measurements from the type 25. I get the performance and the looks. I was driving around london yesterday, I was behind a Noble and people were actually taking pictures of my car!

I have an original Type 25 from Oct 02 and I looked at the S2 Exige in my case but can't justify the differential when the performance won't be 'that' different once I put nitrons, A048's and DVA 155bhp. Yet the cost difference would be probably £15k to put me in an S2 Exige. If I'm spending this amount I'd want something truly different.

I want to see the white on blue pics though!

Hi Guy's
That seems like a Great Idea, I will in time go for some strip's to but I've got to get an exhaust first only really sound's good when your giving it plenty of bean's and the car is at high revs

I spent over £10k going from my S1 to my current S2 111S.

I regret it now...

I also need 2 cars now so need a daily driver hence the S2 111S is going (for sale here on Pistonheads) but an S1 will be part of the replacement package.

Tune what you've got, I did'nt think the 111R was worth the money tbh although I did'nt get to spend that much time with it.

Wendy do you live in the Southampton area?

I was sat alongside a very similar looking Type 25 driven by a lady at the traffic lights by the Northam Bridge the other day - in a work car
