How many miles is this usually?
Or is this a how long is a piece of string type question.
Car was in for an annual inspection.

Warm the car up and hit a A road. Depending on location I'd say 5-10 miles.

Yep, five to ten miles should be enough. When I had an intermittent fault with my car, my mechanic asked my permission to take it for extended drives which I had no problem with.

He has two of his own 911s so I wasn't worried about him taking liberties.

If it was just a service it was in for I wouldn't expect much more than 10 miles although if the mechanic wasn't happy with something he may have driven it longer to satisfy himself it was ok.

Come on OP, tell us how many miles were done for your post service test drive.
Can I start the bidding at 80?

Depends on a number of things.

Was it just a straight forward inspection or was there other stuff to look at? ie a noise that may have required the car going out more than once to check if resolved?
What sort of area is the garage one in the middle of a town may require a few miles to get to a clear bit of road to get the car up to 50-70 mph did the car need to be run on a motorway etc

Normally 8-10 miles is reasonable if there are not circumstances that justify more.

I once had a Passat for 2 weeks & clocked up over 300 miles while trying to sort an intermittent fault but this was obviously with the customers prior permission.

It'll depend on the OPC a bit (and the car). Assuming it's the GT2, then I'd ask them to justify anything I thought excessive. I'd expect 20-30 miles if I took it to Guildford. That said, I'd probably have suggested Reading for the GT2.

Thanks for all the replies chaps.
The miles were at the top end of those expected, which I thought excessive for an mot style of service.
Next service I shall stay with the car and ask for a rev range check just for peace of mind.
Tony........yes, it was there;)

I always ask for a phone call if they want to take the car off site.

No need for a post service joy ride.
So I would expect less than 1 mile added.

So you have a car serviced and don't expect it test driven?
