Reversing into parking spaces - aaaargh
Discussion
Im beginning to think Im the sociopath here
Ever since passing my test I have generally reversed into parking spaces for the following reasons:
a) you can get into a smaller one
b) you dont trash your rims on he kerb
c) you dont have to bulldoze pedestrians on the pavement
But more and more often I see a likely space, indicate, slow down appropriately to stop, engage reverse and get all kind of road rage from people behind me who are being held up for seconds if that, thats assuming they dont pull into oncoming traffic to get past as I execute the manoeuvre narrowly having an accident with all concerned
Is it just me?
Amazing how many sheep will drive up to the back of you when you've got your left indicator on and your reversing lights showing. May actually be worth stopping short, waiting for them to stop and then driving forward into the position you want to reverse from, although it's quite feasible they will just follow you.

My much preferred method with an additional slight swoop towards to space I'm going to reverse in to (nothing major just a few inches). Most people are compliant and let me reverse, every now and again the idiot behind will just follow me so I just sit in reverse and leave them to manoeuvre around me. They normally give me a dirty look but hey ho. i live at the end of a large cul de sac
the end bit holds about 9 cars
often you come home and there is only a couple of spaces taken, all the bad dopey drivers drive into them forwards, rather than turn around whilst its quiet
next thing you know everyone is home and they are really struggling to get out as they have to reverse
i think people are just lazy and put off reversing till later

If you have cars behind, might be an idea to stop a few feet early to bring them to a halt and wake them up. Then pull forward to and reverse back in.
I'm sure I would not last the day as an HGV driver - the numpties they must have to deal with whilst manoeuvring on a daily basis would land me in jail.

I reverse park onto my drive daily. 6/7 days a week someone will decide its a good idea to stop 2ft away from my bumper when indicator and reversing lights are CLEARLY on (I've even got out and checked they work, just to make sure). The stupid thing is, they would have to wait less than half the time to get past if they let me complete the manoeuvre rather than waiting for a break in oncoming traffic to drive around me.
On a really special occasion, maybe once a month/2, someone actually flashes their lights or stops far enough back - that's a real magical moment and is always rewarded with a quick wave of thanks

Work car park isn't much better, car has followed me in from the roundabout, around a few twisty turns, indicator flicked on to CLEARLY show what I'm planning to do, engage reverse, OH WAIT THEY'RE TOO f
kING CLOSE!! /rantWhat are you driving?
Driving a mk1 ford ka, I couldn't believe how much less patience people showed.
In the recently acquired Z4, people are way more patient and seem to be far less likely to honk at you.
The higher up the general public's idea of the car heirachi you are, the less abuse you get for the exact same manner of driving, it seems.

Mr 3 series driver and his horn did not appreciate me reverse parking the other day (it was from a slightly awkward angle so it took a little longer than usual), literally 5 seconds of waiting for him and he beeps me. Needless to say I made sure not to rush from that point on and muttered some bad words when he drove past...
Annoyingly, on my car my reverse light is right near the bottom of my car, and the monkeys never see it, meaning I have to get out and motion them to back up, a couple have said no so I said loudly (had window down) "fine, I'll wait here until you do. Backs up in seconds and I slip straight in. I only every drive into a space if Im in a big hurry or desperate for a pee. Failing that it's easier to reverse in.
