A decade ago I bought a lovely bespoke scale model for my dad of his self-restored 1948 MG TC, which was painted in the correct colour with the correct number plate decals applied. I've no idea where I got it from, but it was perfect. A small model in a display case, it was only about 4" long but very detailed.

It's the 40th birthday of one of my best mates next month and I'd like to get him something similar. He bought himself a 2010 997 MkII Carrera 4S convertible in grey for his birthday.

Anybody got any ideas where I could buy a custom finished scale model? (Or even the correct model of Porsche?!)

This might do the job. With a bottle of something nice.

Thanks for looking. Wrong model though. (I'm after a 997.) smile

I've found this on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/371062628260
...but the colour is wrong and the wheels are wrong.

Maybe I'm being picky, but perhaps a customisation service exists.

There's a chap on here called 'MCWS' who provides a customisation service for models, here's his thread...

And his website...

Wow - that's very impressive! Thanks for digging that out.
However, the website quotes costs of at least €350 plus the base model and that's not realistic for me unfortunately. (I didn't have to pay anything like that much when I commissioned the model for my dad.)

It's relatively easy to dismantle and respray an existing diecast model (the larger the scale the easier it is) and add your own number plates etc. If the wheels are wrong and none are available you could have them CAD modelled and rapid prototyped. I've used RP in the past and the quality is superb, easily as good as most kit quality injection mouldings.

I wouldn't know where to start with this! I'm not a modeller so I'm not sure how this would work. To Google! smile

Yes, I spotted that too. No idea what a GTS is! The wheels aren't perfect but they're closer than most models' wheels. Colour is pretty good. Thanks for the link. beer
