I know that the body on my 400 does not sit correctly on my chassis, this means that even when running 15's it is noticeable ( if your looking ) that the one wheel is an "inny" and one is an "outy", so to speak, it must be a few cm's at least, I will measure it again, but cannot recall exactly. Seamus had a body off and chassis refurb going way back when and the car has always been like it.

Never had an issue with rubbing and the like before, but with a fully laden car and passenger, hooning around Europe, did produce some rubbing on the outside rim of the protruding tyre.

My question is, is it possible to move the tub to sit squarely without actually removing and starting afresh?

Is there any room for adjustment or is it all, at point, drilled and secured? Just thinking about the seats, existing loom and anything that could be considered a concern. Not had any experience of this type of issue.

I would really like to run 16's and think I have to get this sorted before even considering using the 16's in anger.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you are quite correct - rubbing on 15" will only get worse with 16" especially if you go for 9J's with 245 rubber.

I have only moved the tub vertically - packing it out on the offside where there was rubbing. I'm mot sure how easy it would be to shift it to the side an inch. Maybe you could only get 5mm. I think there will be enough play in wires, fuel and brake pipes for about an inch? It's the plates around the rear sills that will stop it moving very far, I think.

Thanks Adam,

I hadn't considered packing it higher, this would resolve the rubbing but not the asthetics issue. I also noticed that in the centre of the car there was a couple of plates where the body was not connected, that surprised me, with space for packing. I am guessing that most would have go these packed out at some point.

Matt have you got any input on this after your recent body-off???

Is the wheel camber correct? Incorrect camber can create the illusion of misaligned bodywork.

You'll have checked for a loose hub nut, that can become very "outy"!
