Got a nasty surprise while spuceing up the chassis rails in the engine bay. Looks like an easy enough weld, anyone had similar? Have they plated the crack or just filled it with weld? WTF are there holes in the mounts for in the first place...

Perhaps drilled to stop a crack spreading? Although don't look good. Think I'd go with new metal than welding. Welded joint never as strong. But if not plated would work.

Mine also had a split... We've gone for the weld option.

Same here,

Drill corner of crack, then weld it back up.

I've just repaired mine too, my crack was bigger and had bent the front mount too! The holes are for cable ties to secure the air con pipes.

We have the same on the race car. Have welded and played over the years but it always comes back by the end of the season!

Thanks folks, weld in situ it is. Any special consideration for welding cerbs? Battery is already out so no need to disconnect that. I'm I being anal if i disconnect the ECU as well? or just make sure i have a spot on earth for the welder right next to the crack?/

given the ecu disconnects easily worth doing, although couldn't see any harm if the earth is close to the point of welding.
