Which camcorder?
Discussion
I've been looking around for a camcorder for a bit of point and click shooting.
Main use is going to be shooting footage of the new sprog, due in a few weeks. So ideally it needs to be small and handy enough to leave around ready to catch any comedy moments
I thought i'd decided on a Sony PC350. I've always had good experience with their gear and my still digicam is a Sony V1, so i've already got a few memory sticks etc....
However, recently spotted the new JCV, MC100 and MC200, which use a 4GB disk in place of the Mini DV tape, and store direct to MPEG2 or MPEG4, which sounds very handy!
Anyone got any experience of either product or add any other products i've missed out on? Budget is about a grand.

The problem that you may run into with MPEG is getting the movies into a compatible software editor. Most editing programs are designed for streaming from camcorder in DV-AVI format. While you can probably upconvert from MPEG, just remember that upconverting from a compressed format usually results in artifacts.
I've done some research on the camcorders and would suggest that the Sony 350 fits your needs. It also has some very nice ancillary features (a "filmlike" 24p effect comes to mind). Also IIRC the CCD in the Sony is larger (which is important for quality).
