Just bought a CLS350 AMG Sport Shooting Brake. I think these cars are a bit marmite. Getting it delivered tomorrow. Wonderful car to drive. Impractical boot for an estate but a decent boot none the less. Chopping in a 2007 E Class estate which has been a fantastic car. Put 60k miles on it and it has been literally faultless. Hopefully the CLS will be just as good, ideally better! I'm very excited. Back in the day before children I used to change cars every 6 - 12 months. This is the first car change in about 5 years so a real event for me...

Im currently running a CLS 250 SB - very nice car. I also had an E class before.

They are very nice - bit of road noise off the rear tyres - they are pretty hefty.

Car was delivered yesterday.

Drove it home.

Studied the gizmos.

Took it for a spin.

Broke down. As I was driving the car started lurching and the rev counter was playing up - it was like the car was hunting for a gear to get into. Eventually whilst still in Drive the car coasted like it was in neutral and I was free to rev the car without power going to the wheels. Came to a stop in a conveniently placed lay-by. Sat silently for a couple of seconds. Started laughing. Turned car off. Thought for a bit. Turned car on and all was fine. Phoned up the dealer this morning who couldn't have been more helpful, apologetic, reassuring and professional. They have organised for my local merc dealer to take the car away and sort it all out.

Any ideas from my vague description what it might be? Any others know of this type of problem?

That's disappointing but I'm sure it will be sorted. My dad had the previous model and it was a great car. I like your interior in particular.

I had this with mine, I'd just had the battery changed by Merc roadside recovery ( which is another story) restarted the car and it was fine. I still had the technicians number in my phone, he came back and checked it and found no faults. 8500 miles later and it's been fine.
I still can't make my mind up if I like the car or not though, I find the economy mode in the gearbox awfully dull witted, it's seems to change when you least want it to.
Hope everything gets sorted for you and you enjoy the car.
