No rear tyres available until July...

Porsche West London have just informed me that there are no Goodyear Asymetric 2s available for the rears (265 35 19) for my 987 S until July.

Really?

My car is in for a service and needs the rears replaced.

The result of the unavailability of Goodyears is that I will have to wait a month (hmmm)or replace all 4 (the fronts are absolutely fine) tyres with a different brand.

It's not that rare a tyre size, is it? I am a bit suspicious!

Had a similar dilemma on my 996 turbo rears.

Decided to opt for an alternative set and changed the fronts to match at next opportunity.

You just need to understand the change in dynamics (it was worse on a Caterham I once owned)!

Apparently they make them in batches and don't always make a new batch before the last batch has sold.

You may be lucky ringing round.

Thanks, mate. I may just stick on a full set of something new for the sake of £500. I might even get a discount on the basis that they can sell my part-worns...wishful thinking in the extreme, I expect.

Why not source an 18" wheelset, fit the tyres of your choice (and probably have a better driving experience on 18s?) and put the 19s back on at service time.

The price difference between 19 and 18 inch tyres will probably pay for the wheels.

Not currently. It's quite strange but is what it is.

Etyres come out and fit them at your choice of location for you e.g. at home / work etc

I think he meant having two sets of wheels.

The key thing is, two wheelsets means you can choose any tyres and are never held to ransom again. I'm sure you could pay your local garage to swop them over for you.

It is an expensive solution, but tirerack.com have them in stock. $348 each plus shipping and taxes from the US though (Eagle F1 Asymmetric N0 - dunno if that matches exactly what you need?). However with it being possible to get a full N rated set of rubber for less than £800 fitted, it is probably more cost effective to just replace all 4... ?

Depends how hung up you are on Goodyears and N approved.
Personally I have no qualms in not using N approved tyres. Also I wouldn't mind having x brand on rears and y brand on fronts, as long they are the correct size and load rating. I wouldn't mix across an axle though.
