Pioneer SC-LX57
Discussion
I currently have a Yamaha A2 surround sound amp which I have had for 15 years...ish. Im looking to update this to a Pioneer SC-LX57. Any thoughts on this or alternatives? (Never been happy the Yamaha on music. Although clear, not a lot of body and not much base. Running through Mission 753 fllor standing speakers).
Just bought one of these and very happy with it: http://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/av-receivers/str... reduced from £500 to £300. Absolute bargain and sounds great for music or film.Running it through 5.1 speakers:
ProAc Studio 150 front floor standers
ProAc centre
Mission 733 rear floor standers
Cambridge Audio Minx x300 sub
All speakers set to "small" so the sub which has its own amp provides the bass. Crossover set to 80hz so the amp and speakers can concentrate on upper and mid range.
Sounds brilliant!

yes, I was looking at the more expensive AV receivers but after doing a lot of research took a punt on the Sony based on good reviews. Glad I did as I think you'd need to spend a lot more to do better.Speakers take a bit of setting up but easy when you work out what to do. Best results are with a decent sub for deep bass, the receiver will handle the crossover with your existing speakers but you will need to manually set the speaker size to small using the AV speaker menu. Also, set the speaker mode to "front reference" instead of "engineer" if you have decent front speakers. I found this gave best results.
This receiver has great connectivity and the menu is really fast and nice to use, bit like a PS3 interface. Works a treat with my HTPC and XBMC.
