2005 Yaris T-Sport

Hi All,

New to the forum, joined piston heads as i'm looking at learning some basic mechanics and getting into track days and then hopefully a entry level race series.

My current car is a mint condition Yaris T-Sport, i love this car and bought it 2 years ago with only 3500 on the ODO (Yes less than 4k miles!) I've since bumped that up to 15k.
I'm a detailing enthusiast so keep it looking showroom condition as long as i have the time, and i'm currently half way through removing any surface rust i find from the suspension arms as i want this to be the best condition T-Sport in the UK if i can help it.

The specs are:

1.5 Litre VVTi engine (No Lift) 110BHP 0-60 is around 9 seconds

They are a great fun car and cheap to insure which helps as i'm only 22! Best thing is not many people know what they are, there a niche car and not something you see everyday which i really like about them!

Interesting choice, a bit of a rare one and pretty underrated from what I've experienced. It's one of the options for my first car next year (aged 21).. Could you share just a few words on how you have found the car overall? Performance, reliability, running costs etc

Cracking example however, really does look like it's just rolled out the showroom, definitely the cleanest I've seen. Also that mileage!

No problem, The cars themselves are anywhere from 1k for a beater to 4k for a minter (Facelift models after 2003 are more expensive), you can pick up a decent one for less than 2k though. Insurance is group 8 which is very low, however you may still struggle if its your first year (My renewal is £733 with 4 years no claims) Tax is £170 for a year if i remember correctly. Petrol is around £55 pounds a tank which lasts around 250-300 miles depending how heavy your right foot is! Servicing from Toyota dealer is 119 for basic and 250 for full. If your looking at aftermarket parts its a very expensive car to modify everything thats good quality aftermarket parts is about 4 times what you would want to pay.

Nice car, i've had 2 of them now - one a 3 door and one a rare 5 door, both Thunder Grey.


I really rate them, mpg was always 40 when I had them and they were pretty quick. Only bad sides I found was the notchy gearbox and the cv joints/suspension bushes being pretty weak.

I miss mine now, might have to get another!

The Yaris T-Sport was a car I looked at when I had to get something more MPG-friendly than my old Celica T-Sport.

Sadly the reason for a cheaper car was an expanding family, and 'boot space' is virtually non-existent in these!

I think they're fantastic. They also accept a double-din headunit which is pretty unique for such a small car (anothing thing which interested me as I could have swapped my DVD unit over from the Celica!)

Thanks guys! There's a theory I have about the miles being so low due to a "suspect" radio station that the radio was fixed to when I got it (religious station that played a lot of brainwashing type music) had to get a replacement radio to stop it playing!

As said the CV joints and suspension bushes at the front are made of cheese, mine looks like it needs those doing already! But its past its MOT with flying colours a couple weeks back so maybe not.

As for reliability in two years of ownership only thing I changed was wheels and tyres as I want to keep the originals mint for when (if) I ever sell it.

I'd really like to track it but I get the feeling I'd bin it and ruin a perfect car! So I've been looking at Porsche 944's and 91 CRX's as a second weekend car.
