From what I can see the body doesn't look too bad. And for the price it's not so important.
It will be interesting to see how it compairs to the e39 m5 and the xjr.

Are there any common fault or problems to watch out for besides the rot.

I'll keep you updated on the mot results later.

Nothing major.

Just the usual gearbox oil and filter change and the occasional dodgy electrics. Front wishbone bushes go, as they all do on W210 E-Class models.

They have 'typical' AMG throttle feel of it feeling like a piece of wood at first. They don't feel fast until you prod them. Very much a Jekyll and Hyde character. Below around 3,000rpm they're very docile and they wake up after that when pushed.

Looking forward to more pictures and what you think of it.

Nice car OP - I think these look great and would like one myself. When I was going through my "want an AMG" phase, I seriously considered looking for an E55. The E36 wasnt going to cut it. I originally considered a C36 or C43, but the E55 was to me more of a "boss"

Just a shame the 5.5 only produced 354bhp, I would've thought it would've made more.

Good news on the relatively pain free MOT as well.

Any details?

Mine was 381 bhp/429ft/lbs so a bit quicker than standard but not much, all work done by the previous owner. Must have cost a fair bit to get the extra oomph! still got my ass handed to me by a bog standard W211 E55K (now they are....really quick!!!) thought mine was fast until that hiding!!

They do go very well though, still miss mine but was costing me too much to keep on the road frown

Some pics now shes clean.

Its unfortunately a bit worse in the body than I had hoped. Its had a poor repair to the nsf wing and bonnet and the arches as with many of these are quite bad.

It drives lovely however. The torque makes up for the lack of power compared to the m5. However the auto box makes a comparison quite hard.

I see the 55 as more of an alpina b10 rival.
The merc is not as much as a drivers car as either bmw but in the mid range performance its well up there. And it sounds lovely.

Unfortunately I think the body is too much work to be viable for me so ill probably let someone else have her fairly soon.

Ive done my bit shes back on the road with a fresh mot.
