Gearbox Info For Posterity
Discussion
Hi All, spent last night researching gearbox stuff. Thought I would post up what I found, you never know, might be of interest to somebody..
The later Chimaera (mine is a 96) used a World Class T5 indicated by the numbers on the tag (My tag was unreadable - hence digging around a bit)
The box has 23 spline input and 27 spline output.
British V8 website has a table of identification http://www.britishv8.org/articles/borg-warner-t5-i... It lists two boxes for TVR
1352-248 TVR WC U (Rev 2.76) 2.95 1.94 1.34 1.00 0.80
and
1352-240 TVR Griffith Veh 4.3 V8 WC U (rev 2.76) 2.95 1.94 1.34 1.00 0.73
This would indicate that we have the 0.73 5th gear. HOWEVER, in a post somewhere here somebody has stated that their 97 Chimaera box has the tag stamped 1352-248 and this is indicated as having the 0.80 5th gear. I also read that the Cerbera had different 5th gear and Racing Green state on their Cerb gearbox ad that the Cerb had 0.8 5th gear. For certain the tail housing in the Cerb is different from the Chimeaera
I need to see if I can confirm this from a friends car unless someone can check... - NOTE the casing stamps are not relevant, it is the metal tag on a bolt on the left side of the box that is important.
I also picked up on previous mentions of the Isuzu box being used in TVRs. It appears we have the same tail house an an Isuzu Rodeo box with tag stamp 1352-250. The number stamped into the gear change cover on the tail housing of the Isuzu box is also the same as our boxes (gear change at the rear of tail housing). The Ratios are not the same as 1352-250 Isuzu 1996 rodeo 2.6 L4 WC R 3.70 3.97 2.34 1.48 1.00 0.81. No idea if this has the same number of splines as our boxes.
There is an ebay ad that I picked up some of this info from here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ISUZU-RODEO-TREMEC-T5-TRAN...
It describes it as 1993-1995 Isuzu Rodeo 2.6 4cyl 1994-1995 Honda Passport 2.6 T-5 Borg Warner World Class Transmission. I doubt this will help anyone, but you never know.
Anyway, feel free to add to this if you have useful info. I will update when I find out more.
