CHECK YOUR HUB NUTS!!!!.....FFS!!!
Discussion
Hi peeps...Just an update on what i thought was a failed wheel bearing...There is a nylon nut on there and someone has drilled a hole twice through the driveshaft...I noticed the nut move when i pulled out what i thought was a split pin...It was actually a twisted bit of wire FFS!!!...And it was only through one hole of the nut and then threaded through the hole in the centre of the driveshaft...The holes do not line up...I asked Dan about it and TBH i don't think he did it...Maybe his little helper...So its not as bad as first thought but could of been a lot worst!...Hopefully we have found some nyloc M20 nuts...Thing is we only have a torque wrench that goes up to 150ftlbs but to be honest even with a length of square steel tubing and a 2ft 3/4" bar we cannot tighten the nut anymore...Hopefully if the nyloc fits then its thread lock and no pin....Cheers...Ziga
Thanks Leigh..I will let you know shortly as regards to the wrench...There is a machined hole in the shaft but there is no way the nut on it at the moment would line up and so explains the hole further toward the end.......The washer is around 1/4" thick so wether its the right one or not i don't know...Ziga

1/4 thick is about right, just make sure its not deformed.check to see if a smaller washer will get the hole to the nylock part of the nut, if so you could castle the original nut so you have 3 positions to fit a pin
Mark I use 220lbf only on brand new ones, your 150 will be fine on your used one, that what I do on reassembly, 150, and I don't get failures any more.
Is there no way you can use the existing driveshaft hole to split-pin? I mark up the hole with a parallel line on the end of the shaft and measure how far it is from the end. Use a 3mm drill bit drill the nut from one side and find the old hole. When you're happy you are on target continue right out the other side, then enlarge it to 4mm or whatever your split pin diameter is.

Cheers for the replies chaps..All done and dusted...We tried an assortment of M20 but the pitch was wrong so the old one has been re-used, The big washer was ground down a little and the hole on the nut was cleaned up a bit...Got some super thread lock one and a split pin..The torque is around 180ftlbs which should be ample...BBWF 2014 here i come......Yeee ha.....Ziga
