Car side swiped :(

parked my car yesterday
no damage
go to it today
this morning, fresh damage, no note, no nothing
some one has sideswiped it on the rear offside by the wheel, does not look bad until you look along the side, then you see the top of the wheel arch has been pushed in about an inch, got several quotes at around £300 to fix it
So have been nipping in and out of the car park looking for cars with fresh damage at the right location
basically looking for damage to their front lefts
and I found a white van with fresh scraps and gray marks (my car in gunmetal), measured the heights, compared to damage on mine bang on and I have white marks
any suggestions before I go bang on his door ?

Left a note on the van twice now
No dice.
I've even been to the flat of space number where the van parks, they claim its not their van and they don't rent a space.
In fairness the spaces are pricey, and they are separate from the flats (they were not sold with the flats, but separately instead, and some goon bought 30 of the 49 and charges Manchester Deansgate prices in Warrington)

1- talk to the handy man and find who actually rents the space.
2- organise the repair out of my own pocket, well that bits done, goes in on the 26th for 3 days, costing me £300 all in, my excess is £250, so as I had a car wrote off in May 2012 I'm not telling the insurance cause I bet they'd load my premium by more than £50 in September.

Was a slow speed crushing rather than impact so not much paint transfer

t happens".We had something similar and tracked the car down by the paint and correponding damage.
I went to the Police station, gave a statment, showed them the photos and the officer given the case went round and quizzed the vehicle owner about leaving the scene of an accident.
He fessed up, she provided the detaila to the insurance company I had supplied her with. The wifes car got repaired.
Good things do happen.
