I took these 2 shots in Chingford in either late 85 or early 1986. It was my pals circa 1980/81 Turbo in Martini colors. He had bought it from Colin Grant International at Hornsey, Nth London. We had a frightening high speed crash in this car one eve in heavy rain. It cost 6 grand to repair back then !

Anyone know what became of it ?

Car is lovely. That is what used to happen back then, people would stop and look, now days it head down and walk straight on if a special Porsche hoves into view!
Cant remember the last Martini car I saw in the flesh. Original ones, from the factory have to be hens teeth now!
A minor row has broken out over the identity of the car on the first picture, extreme left. I say Hillman Avenger?

I'm intrigued by the Escort van - pop up sunroof and side windows.
Either a DIY conversion or a very rare factory edition.

(That car - I think Avenger)

My first car was an Avenger in a lovely shade of Mustard Yellow. You didn't need a key to open the doors, just put the palms of your hands on the windows and pull the glass down. Happy days smile Very nice Turbo though and the photo of the lads standing in the background reminds me of me and my mates ogling a car from a distance !!

Do you know what, I checked out the Escort van too, but thought I shouldn't mention it on here. May have been built by a man working in the 'special wishes' department.
Or the pope was in town?
I remember my mum wanted a fiesta when I was a kid, and bought a nearly new one from a fella who worked on the production line.
It was the most comprehensively equipped 1.1L Fiesta I have ever seen (we are talking 1982) with rev counter, wood dash, four speaker radio cassette, two door mirrors, rear wiper, sunroof, the list was endless!

Thanks for the confirm on the Avenger- YES!

Hi Charge, yes the blue Hilman on the left was an Avenger. Was always there, a neighbours car. That Turbo seems to have disapeared, I don't know it's original reg no or the number it was put in when sold shortly after the accident in early 86.

The 3 guys were my pals, including the 911s Owner. The Escort van belonged to my neighbour, a nice guy, had a plumbing and heating biz, sadly died young, some years ago of Motornurones.

Would the owner of the 911 be the one in the cream slacks (and possibly loafers?) biggrin
