My 300CE 24 W124 goes to 160mph on the speedo, I'm sure it's still capable of the 150mph it could do when new as it pulls like a train at highish speeds. I don't think ten mph is too shabby a difference.

IIRC most Eighties Ford speedos went to 140, no matter how fast or slow they were.

The only vehicle I ever had up to the 'top of the clock' was a mk1 short wheelbase Transit which originally had a v4 1.7 litre engine but I'd changed it for a v6 3.0 litre from a Granada. The speedo went up to 120mph and the needle went off the scale a few times on downhill stretches of (my private) motorway. No idea how fast it was actually going but it was scary.

I had a Morris 1000 years ago, going down a very big hill the needle would point south at the fuel gauge.

My main car is a Volvo V40 and the speedo is electronic so I would guess it will only read to what the car will reach, which Volvo say is 130mph, although in 14 months of ownership the car has to knowledge been above 100mph once, although I lent it to a friend for a trip to Somerset a few weeks ago - God knows what he got up to, the MPG figure was curiously lower than mine though!

My Clio 200 Cup has 150mph and then two lines/notches beyond that, but doesn't show 160, the top speed according to Renault is 141mph, it.... may have been over 100mph, boxedin

Me and my Dad restored a classic Mini a few years ago - we bought it in 2007, as a 998cc auto (which caused a few issues when we had to cut the transmission tunnel out). We slapped a 1340cc engine with all the supporting engine/drive train mods but left the original clocks/speedos in, on our return trip to Huddersfield from a Mini specialist in the Lancashire area after having the car correctly set up on a rolling road we may have surpassed 90mph (max shown on the dial) and started going round the speedo again much to our amusement on the hills between Manchester and Huddersfield, it has straight cut gears too so the noise was deafening. Memories.

Car I recently sold 200mph on the speedo. Max speed 199mph. A paragon on what is really needed.
(If I lost the food baby - maybe 200mph is possible )

180mph on the speedo, limited to 155 but apparently 165 is achieveable. Sounds fairly reasonable.

The Rover's speedo goes to 140mph. Top speed is 134mph - again, sensible enough.

I was quite proud of my old M6, with a speedo up to 200mph but would be able to hit 207mph on a long enough stretch (derestricted). Sadly the, ahem, track I did a Vmax run on only let me hit 160.

160mph on the speedometer. Based on past experience before the remap, it'll probably do it as well smile

The speedo - somewhat optimistically - goes to 200 mph...

I think that the official figure is 155 mph hehe

To be honest, I haven't even looked at what the Omega says. But I'm confident that it can't do it. biggrin

E46 330ci.

The clocks go up to 160 and it is apparently a 155mph car. I've never done anything over 100 in it though.

thumbup On my private run way the needle stops a fraction after the 120, its clearly a decent amount out!
