997.1 Turbo

Hi All,

Off to Le Mans for one last trip in the C2S Cabriolet and then it's for sale in July. It's been fantastic especially for all my Euro Trips. Pic attached from the Goodwood Supercar Sunday event.

I was thinking about a GT3 but I do need rear seats so the Turbo is the obvious choice.

What do people think about the prices on these? Good ones are now around the £40k mark and 996 Turbo's seem to be going up from their £20k bottom. I have a feeling that the 997 Turbo won't drop much below £35k but welcome opinions. GT3 prices are silly and I guess partially down to issues with the 991.

Any general recommendations on the Turbo? The plan is to buy privately but with a car that has remaining OPC warranty. In silver obviously :-)

Fabulous cars - get one

I paid more than you mentioned but it was a 2008 low mileage one, 40k will get you a very nice average mileage 06/07 one

Lots of people getting misty eyed about 996 turbo but pleased I went for the better looking, way better interior and extra oomph of the 997. Good 996tt have found their base, 997tt will do so but to my mind will always be worth a bit more.

Both of the last Mezgers, buy a good spec manual of either - both great cars

Yes definite a manual, skinny seats (so people can actually fit behind), no clock on the dash and under 50k miles. I like silver and blue leather but will go on condition as usual.

Molly - why do you think the .1 will catch the .2? Assume it's engine related?

I like the .1 styling more on all the 997 range except for the C4S / GTS 4 as you have the reflective strip in the middle :-)

quite possibly - the power gain is negligible, the better PCM won't matter when both are old tech, and the Mezger engine will be sought after. May take a while though.

Each to their own of course, but I wouldn't consider blue leather and a car without sports chrono. The overboost feature is a must, and the clock doesn't offend me.

Which seats are the skinny ones? I have the adaptive sports seats and they are excellent, the rear seats are useless for adults but my 7 year old fits like a glove

I thought I need rear seats as well. Kids.... So got a 997.1 turbo. Good car and good fun! But the only child seat that fits is the porsche seat and that is huge. So the kids are cramped in the rear and can't see anything. Also a bit loud for kids I'd say. So needless to say I never took the kids.

Sold the turbo and got a 997.2 GT3. Best move ever! Turbo still a great car!

There are a few PCM3 Gen 1 turbos around. They are the pick of the bunch, IMHO of course.....

I'm six months in and loving mine more and more each day I went with a good indie buying wise as I was hammered on my last 997 using OPC servicing/maintenance and kinda feel the indies have more to lose reputation wise and make more effort.... just feel I get better service and value from them.
