Defender TDCi [2.2] real world mpg and performance.
Discussion
With defender production coming to an end and my disco 2 now 11 years old ( still a new car to me lol) Im contemplating a change to either a 90sw or a 110 utility ( 5 door with seats but no rear windows) through the company.
I was a bit dismayed to see it only has 120 bhp and a stated mpg of 25... knowing what manufacturer figures are like that probably equated to about 15mph in normal use. I know the disco 2 was rated at about 30 but generally gets 25, 29 driving like a nun on prozac on the motorway
does anyone have real world figures for either the 90 or the 110.
also whats it like with only 120bhp a bit sluggish i expect, the disco only lasted 2 weeks before heading off to JE for the full 190bhp kit so I expect it would be about the same time frame before a defender ended up in coventry for the 183bhp stage 2 kit as well...
does anyone have experience of the je stage 2 in a defender. I know it transformed the disco..
cheers

Hi G,
If you have not already visited honest john, I suggest you take a look at the real world mpg figures for an idea http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg/land-rover/def...
I have a brand new 90 XS SW arriving with me in a few months and expect to get 25mpg out of the Landy

I have a 61 plate 2.4 110 SW XS and get 27 mostly urban commuting.
On motorways no better, perhaps slightly worse at just over 70 ;-). At 60 would be pretty good but life's too short.
Not fast of the mark, and stop starting kills the economy so coast towards red lights.
You can make reasonable progress in the 110, no race car but not too shabby and I used to have 4.3 T350 as a weekend car.
Make sure you get an XS - traction control and heated front screen are must haves.

Not really relevant as mine is a 90XS Td5 but having seen this post, and the fuel light coming on today having done 345 miles to the tank, I decided to measure the mpg. Came in at 31mpg which I thought was quite good.
I use it for pottering about so just short journeys and rarely go above 40mph (never much above 50 which is pretty much top speed unless wearing ear defenders...).
