Decent pub/restaurant south of Edinburgh

Got to do Edinburgh and back from Manchester tomorrow.

Will be heading home early afternoon. On the A702 and M74

Can anyone recommend a decent place for a feed not to far off this route?? That will be open all day as it might end up being after 2pm.

Just a few minutes off the City Bypass on the A702, just at the Ski-slope.

Good food and ales.

Great food but more of a restaurant feel than a pub atmosphere.

A bit further down the road towards Biggar. Again just right off the A702, about 3 or 4 miles from the Bypass

Last time I went to the Flotterstone it was crap. Last time I was down that neck of the woods I went to Coulter Mill which was really nice. Biggar also has some nice places the townhead cafe is an award winning chip shop.

The Allan Ramsay in Carlops was nice last time I was there - good venison.

The Flotterstone will be rammed tomorrow if the weather is good.

Thanks all. Had a quick bite at the Coulter Mill, it was spot on.

Doing the same in a month to collect the puppy we saw today so will try the other suggestions!

The Tusitala is a restaurant but does good food. It's joined onto the pavilion pub, which it shares a kitchen with, so also decent food but a bar/ pub grub menu. Come off the city bypass at the Lothianburn junction, take the a702 into town and it's less than 2 minutes on your right hand side.

Another option is the Stables bar, just off frogston road. Decent pub grub also.

I would have suggested stopping at tebay services on the M6 as its the best services around IMO let alone on that route.

We did stop at Tebay!! Just perfect timing after the venison burger and 300 odd miles began to take its toll. A quick bit of fresh air, a red bull and some fine ingredients for Sundays BBQ and the last 75 miles flew by.

Hugely impressive and 10p off a litre of fuel after the spend in the butchers made fueling up sensible on the motorway for the first time ever!

Just a quick resurrection as we are retracing this journey on Saturday.

We need a dog friendly pub for the return and the Crown in Buggar seems to fit the bill unless any of you fine folks have another suggestion.

The Flotterstone is very dog friendly. There's a big garden out back, they have dog bowls, and occasionally the bar staff will offers treats.

Mine was knackered and hungry after a big walk, and they put out a bowl of ham for her, which I thought was great.
