Just been sat in the garden and suddenly heard a very distinctive noise I've not heard for years. Thought I must be dreaming, but the howl was swiftly accompanied by a Canberra, with a Hunter flying line astern going around and around above me. Tried to get my son excited, but alas no. Made my day though.

A lovely aeroplane, with 55 years of service behind it, encompassing everything from Korea to Afghanistan. A Falklands veteran too (albeit on the 'wrong' side). I'm looking forward to getting a chance to see it flying again sometime this year.
I'd love to see it in a formation flypast with '558 and all the other surviving British jets, from the Vampire and Meteor, through the Hunter and Sea Vixen, and including stuff like the JPs and Gnat. It would make a good feature at Farnborough, to celebrate the history of the airfield, and the air shows of yesteryear.

9 ship formation, slap on some red paint, throw in some red, white and blue smoke, and XH558 flying lead as 'Red 1' and we've got the makings of a pretty decent aerobatic display team.

Used to have plenty of US guests come over [Alconbury was a recce base too] they soon realised they were in for something special after a short take off run, engines shut back, silent coast by followed by a turn away from the crowd, then slammed throttles into a near vertical, but short climb into a stall turn............
I doubt that we will be seeing that this time round!!
PS after departure their later return to the airfield would be from behind the crowd, fast then with throttles shut open speedbrakes as they passed over the crowd line....I'm amazed there were never any heart attacks to be honest!!

They were flying for the Folkestone Air Show yesterday, and again possibly today. It was lovely to see them, the last time I saw a Canberra flying was the old ones from Gulf War 1 in their beige/pink livery. It was great to hear the howl as the Canberra did a high-speed pass as it left the seafront. Lovely!
