Summons due to driving with no MOT

Hello, everybody,

I was stopped whilst driving with no MOT and asked to produce my documents within seven days. I realised I had no valid MOT, and took it to be MOT'd before I had to produce my documents. The car passed but when I produced my documents I was informed that I was still likely to be charged as the MOT was not valid when I was stopped

I recently received a summons as a result of driving with no MOT. I replied by post, with a plea of guilty, as I could not attend the court date. The court hearing was for 18th November and I have not heard anything since, although I have received my driving liscence back.

How long is it likely to be before I hear what I have been charged with, and what am I likely to receive?

If you have your licence back with nothing added then you may well have got away with it? surely they would have kept it until you were notified of the penalty as they may have to add points to it aswell. I remember the thread you initialy posted up as i replied to it.
Whatever happens i bet you make sure you keep up to date with MOT's in future

You could probably get MOT blank certificates on ebay. They sell loads of other illegal things, like V5's, etc.

no mot = fine + no points iirc.

the fine used to be small,it all depends on the magistrates and how nice and appologetic you are.

If you don't have an MOT though, isn't your insurance then invalid?

I'm thinking if you crashed the car and claimed on your policy, the insurers could say you weren't covered as the car had no MOT and there's bound to be some print in all these insurance policies providing them with a get-out clause, no?

In most cases, it seems the policy will still cover you, but for third party cover only.

Highway code says driving a car without a valid MOT is a £1000 fine , no points.


If you have no insurance because of this then thats a £5000 fine and 6-8 points.

I was done for having no MOT a few years ago. It was only 2 days out of date though. Fined £25.00, no costs, no points, and the insurance wasn't even questioned. Don't worry about it.

If you were done for just No MOT then why did you send your Licence in? No MOT does not carry endorsement or points.

It is an urban myth that if your MOT expires then you have No Insurance.

So if you want to find out what happened bell or call Magistrates Clerks Office giving name of defendant, Court and date and offence.They will consult Court Sheet and advise.

As stated normally if only expired by days and new one issued straight away just a slapped wrist. Out for a long time then Court. Not a henious offence.
