LeMans Classic route options
Discussion
Hi
Am driving down to LeMans classic for the first time this year. Am on the overnight crossing on the Thursday night from Portsmouth to Caen and am looking for some tips or advice for a good route or places to drive though. obviously
I want to keep off the main toll roads , any info would be much appreciated

Hi.
You could take the road through Thury Harcourt, Domfront, Ambrieres les Vallees and Mayenne.
Nice road and no tolls. Hardly ever see 'Les Flicks' either.
Here is a link to Via Michelin; http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/web/Routes?strStartLo...
It shows the route from Calais but does go via the Caen periphique.
It's best to put Thury Harcourt into the sat Nav first then take it from there. Unless you have way points that is!
Enjoy.

Scaf, we've done that crossing a few times and if you have a sat nav, just tell it to take the shortest route. You'll take some great roads, pass through a few little towns and villages (and wonder where the hell all the people are hiding) and generally have a lovely time. The journey is as much part of the experience as the event. Alternatively, take a look at the map, pick a few towns on the way and go shortest route town to town, it's like a magical mystery tour.
We're crossing to Cherbourg this time for a change, same plan though.

Posted this in the 'Alternate Route' thread, but it's probably better here, as we are doing Le Classic!
As an alternative, this year The Le BOG Club is going via Bilbao...
