new Owner! TVR S2..... couple of questions knocking sound

HI Guys

ive recently bought a very nice s2 and i love the car a lot.... I had an mx5 MK1 last year but missed noise...

I do have a slight problem:

I have a knocking sound coming from the rear/passenger side of the car. It increases in frequency as speed increases. If i turn right even slightly the noise disappears but in a straight line its evident. It needs attention just wondered if anyone suffered anything similar so i can start problem shooting...

I also wondered if someone with an s2 could take a picture of the passenger footwell? i think im missing a trim panel and im trying work out whats actually missing??

Other than that im a very happy new tvr owner..just want to lose the knocking!

Does it occur as you pull away - particularly in reverse as if so probably the CV joints on the drive shaft. If not the only other real potential culprits would be the wheel bearing or suspension. Jack the car up, spin the wheel and listen for noise and for the CV joints try try moving wheels and driveshafts in opposite directions and see if you get the noise or excessive movement. For suspension use crow bar and look for movement a, tall mounts including top and bottom of shock absorber

Do you have the carpet flap that covers the ecu etc?

On the s3 it tucks under the glove box kind of.

Hi guys

Firstly thank you!

It dosent happen at very low speed <10mph at all... I also noticed today that it vanishes totally if I put the brake on? So only occurs when no steering input or braking is being done... Putting clutch in and the noise remains?

I need a spare afternoon jack it up and have a good look.. It dosent sound like a wheel bearing to my ears but might be.

It's the panel that covers the ecu that I'm missing! Thank you I assumed there had to be one and it didn't come from new like that. Don't suppose anyone has a spare?

Nice interior! Where did you get the chrome surround for the gear stick? it looks really nice.

If the knocking disappears on braking I would be tempted to check the brake shoes for something loose in the drums.

It could be a loose shoe the with perhaps a broken spring or retraining clip, difficult without hearing the noise

Gear surround is made at home, but I`ve got access now to a laser cutter at work maybe get some made if there is enough interest. Mine is held on by 4 countersunk bolts with stiff nuts, I had to drill 4 holes in the centre consol to fit the bolts.

Really like that gear surround, if you make any more I'll be interested for starters.

Right update time...

Went to jack the car up and have a look and the problem was obvious in about a nano second....

Wheel nuts had worked loose. Yep all it needed was tightened wheels.. I did this and just went for a 50 mile run in the sun and all is well...

So knocking sounds... Always check wheel nuts...

Blimey that could have been bad had a wheel come off.. Keep an eye on the nuts the wheel movement could have knackered the threads..

Nice car those bunny ears need to go mind..

Yeah it seems okay.. They were only slightly loose so hopefully okay..

Like the last owner didn't own a brace/breaker bar..

The bunny ears are hideous and useless... Good thing I ride motorbikes and lifesaver looks are second nature...

Thanks... I can't take credit for it the previous owner had it painted..

I'm going to text him as I want change the mirrors so I need to find out as well.. It's a fiat colour apparently?

Looks very similar to mine (only a darn sight more shiny), which would make it Cobalt Blue I reckon.
