Hi all just a quick question is it common practice on the SBC to fit spring washers on the ARP bolts that hold the exhaust manifold to the block as my bolts seem to work loose causing gasket to blow . Just about to re fit manifold after f1 qualifying cheers all Paul

I would think it is not common but if you are having a problem then give it a try.

Have you recently fitted new exhaust gaskets? If so, I suspect that they are compressing (thus leaving your bolts loose) - that being the case tightening them 2-3 times after a heat cycle should cure the issue.....?

As has been said tighten a few times after heat cycle should cure the problem.

If you are still having problems used Nord-Lock washers rather than single coil spring washers as they are a much better product.

ARP makes a stud and nut set for both the LS and SBC the stud has a machined spot for a hex wrench on the end. Install the stud finger tight only with the supplied ARP lube, torque the nut to the supplied spec while holding the stud from tightening any further retorque at 5 or 6 starts ignore that issue for the life of the motor, car or driver whichever occurs first.
