Well got the chassis in April and am pleased to say not a million miles away from getting it to the rolling stage, lost count of hours though as I didn't want to measure the build in terms of time, I tend to steal a few hours rather than prolonged build sessions. I have considered a build of around 18 months mainly due to funding rather than build difficulty etc, Not sure if there is such a thing as an average build time?

I don't even think there is an aaverage build time. Some do it in a couple of months, others take several years. I guess each builder is different.

Don't worry about how long it takes. Concentrate on enjoying the process.

You will also find that you get to the stage where the car is almost finished (or looks it). However there will be hundreds of little jobs to do which will eat time before it is ready for IVA/the road.

Keep up the good work.

I have a factory Five. I am seriously considering a Can Am. Since I am in my 50's married w rodents, I miss that thrill of a new girlfriend every 3 or 6 months ( I am/was sexually demented)
What I found is; while saving for that needed expensive part for the build, when it finally arrives it's like a new girlfriend !! many times ! !
So I would kick back and enjoy that lengthy build of yours, that's the real fun anyway, getting one step closer ! !
Sometimes there are less gremlins when you take your time also, you will get familiar with every part intimately. When something does go wrong, you will already know what went wrong and you can fix it yourself.
Cars parts are much less expensive than a girlfriend these days, especially if your married !

Good luck and keep posting progress, I need to see it.
Thanks
Mike

All I can say is go for the Can Am, you wont regret it. I like your thinking I too am early 50's and do enjoy the build part knowing what each part does and how it works etc, to me it is as important as the end result is a car that probably wont get a massive amount of use, well none to be exact in the winter months

I also recommend the Can-Am, but my decision was more for reasons of practically especially living in a warmer environment than your "island". Also being a tad over 50 (65 since June 3rd) access is much easier than in the GTR biggrin even my heart swings more to the GTR, but that's another story... wink
