is a panel filter worth fitting on my 1998 clio 1.4rt?

I'm looking for a few quick wins to improve the overall performance of my little Clio, can anyone advise me? I have heard that a panel filter will help but every review I have seen doesn't agree, any advice??

You can't polish a turd.

Only kidding but a new air filter isn't going to make any difference to performance. It may introduce some induction noise though.

A decent service would probably be your best bet.

Then nitrous.

You won't notice the minor bhp improvements of things like panel filters. Best bet for they long term is new car or engine swap.
