Not sure why I am sharing this with the OH masses but it's playing on my mind so here goes.

The other half and I were out walking the dog as you do in the evening and we came across a couple who were doing the same so stopped had a chat and they mentioned someone that walks there dog.

Nothing new but they were saying that if your dog were to go near his he would walk over and punch your dog. Have to admit I was a bit dubious about this, anyway after a chat off we went on our way only to see this person. Had our dog close to us just in case but as dogs are he wandered over to say hello, no running or jumping just slowly trotting.

Sure enough I saw this `person` go to clench his fist, luckily before he could do anything I said something to him, his response being "I was going to punch you dog in the face if he comes near me". Much shouting later I like to think I was the bigger man and walked off.

Just what goes through these peoples heads, not only to punch a dog in the face, but to own one also.

Well I would like to see him try with my dogs......

However I'd be inclined to report him to the police non-emergency number just in case.

AFAIAA there are no laws to stop the village idiot owning a dog. But at least you now know who he is.

I can understand someone who doesn't have a dog doing that, but if he has a dog?!?!?!

I could kind of understand if he had asked to put our dog on the lead, but he didn't say a word before hand.

I'm not one that would go ringing the police about every little thing but I think I'd call the non emergency number and encourage the other walkers to do the same, with any luck he'll have his dog taken off him, problem solved.

If we come across him again or hear anything from anyone else then it may be a call to the non-emergency number I think then.

This ^ .. The idiot needs to be reported because sooner or later he will pick on the wrong dog or owner and get his face torn off, especially with a 30Kg terrier cross coffee What goes through the heads of these people?

Sounds like he's not right in the head tbh.

I'm sure he isn't quite so 'handy' when it comes to the larger breeds he meets.

I am thinking rather than his dog taken off him that should he punch/hit a dog that fights back and get badly injured, I would not like to see that dog taken away and destroyed. I'd hope that if the police knew this t**t was running around hitting dogs they might account for that if he gets "attacked" himself by a dog.

All, I'm glad it's not just me that thinks this is not right. We have decided to carry on as normal but let other walkers that we see know.

If we do see him again and the same thing happens then it will be a call to the non-emergency number to report him.

If it were a case of putting a notice at a dog park then this again would be done but it's all lanes and bridleways and just to add if horses or livestock are around the dog gets called over and held or put on the lead until passed tongue out

o/p what was his excuse for punching a dog that comes over?

is it he's scared of dogs or that he has a dodgy dog and doesn't want any dogs sniffing around?

he does sound a mentalist my only worry would be if your mrs is walkingn the dog on he own and bumps into him, would she be able to front up to him enough for him to decide maybe punching your dog isn't wise?

Report the nob. This way he'll be known to the Police. If anything does occur his actions will be more or less premeditated.

He has his dog, so assuming he isn't scared of them, his dog didn't seem dodgy just a normal dog. Not that ours got close but his dog showed no violence.

He gave no reason other than he `might` jump up, and I know the majority of owners say it but he has never jumped up or bitten anyone, hell when we got him he wouldn't go near anyone.

That was my worry, I work away during the week and not that I'm well built etc but I have taken on a few rugby players on the pitch and came out reasonably well so I would like to think I could give it a go if the worst happened.

Think OH will be walking different places this week though.

Yeah probably best move, or change walk time and make sure dogs on lead if you do see the other guy.

Baffles me what he thinks he's achieving other than potentially making your dog nervous of all strangers.

And do what exactly? Get in a fight and then get your self arrested? Pure genius!

As someone else said. It just sounds like he isn't all there. I would just walk the other way if I saw him again.

Herbie is timid as you like and doesn't even go off the lead, so it would only be on a small path where I would have a problem.

I have to wonder??

Has his dog been attacked by one or more other dogs at some time?
Is your dog large and intimidating in any way?

Exactly what questions DID you ask him?????
We need more facts.

Doesn't matter. Unless your dog attacks his. If anybody did that to my dog I would use any means at my disposal to defend my boy.

For more reason than one. The main one being that if my dog when attacked bit back the tosspot would report it and the dog stands a chance if being put down.

Edit. Was his dog on a lead?

Oh and report it. And encourage others to report because when he does get in a fight at least the police will know about him.
