Been driving mid engined sports cars for 14 years.. Every weekend I typically do 50-75 miles.. Almost exclusively B road and towns only when required to pass through.
Bought a 987 Boxster S 2 months ago and since then I've had numerous gobby comments when passing oncoming traffic at low speed and a few 1 finger salutes.
It this par for the course with Porsche ownership? Maybe I need start carrying cans of Red Bull LOL

I don't particularly find this behaviour to be Porsche specific as it seems to stimulate aggressive actions virtually everytime I perform an overtake manoeuvre these day in whatever I'm driving. And before anyone says it, I don't overtake in any way which could be regarded as bullish or dangerous.
Thats the one thing I noticed moving from a GTR R35 to a GT3. The former attracted lots of looks ( it was new out and noone had seen one ) to the later which seemed to attract all sorts of abuse on a regular basis. Even sat still in traffic from cars coming the other way !! If you dont want to be let out at the junction , buy a GT3 !!!
Very odd behavior

I've encountered this a few times but worst (best?) of all when in rural mid Wales. I wanted to buy an avocado and asked for one in the local shop, they didn't have one and were a bit surly. So I drove to the next village and asked in their local shop only to be greeted with "Are you that posh English w****r in the Porsche trying to buy a posh vegetable?".
I responded with "Thank you for your kind words and it's a fruit actually" which left them a bit dumbfounded :-). They didn't have any avocados either....

perfect. As for the original topic, I have noticed that people are very keen to overtake and then slow down in front of me whenever I drive the old 2.2S, even though I’m driving along slightly above the speed limit. It is strange because I don’t see that behaviour in the other cars.
A hiker once gave me the finger on the way back down a mountain pass even though I drove well below the speed limit, but earlier a reckless biker with a crazy exhaust overtook me on the way up while passing the hiker. When in doubt, blame the Porsche driver.

Did the GT3 exhibit the somewhat chavvy in yer face decals per chance? If so, maybe that was something to do with it.......Very odd behavior

I found that driving a white 997 Turbo Cab with a private plate attracted all kinds of trouble, not that I came up against anything that I could not muller at the lights. However, my blue 993 C2 Cab gets nothing but compliments and admiring glances. I would have thought it would be a "new is flash" and "old is cool" divide but maybe not...?
When I first bought my 996 turbo I was quite self conscious driving it (not sure why having owned a pink Caterham). I've got used to it and now don't give it a second thought.
I've had no negative comments and whilst filling up have had a couple of people ask me to get intouch if/when I come to sell it.
Just drive with consideration, don't let other people's views spoil your enjoyment and don't react. Happy motoring!

Recently got my first Porsche, also a 986, and I am amazed at the sudden increase in tailgating and t
ts in the "modified vtec just kicked in yo" camp trying to prove a point. I've had much newer, and much more expensive cars before but the difference is incredible. I really, really don't get it...why does Barry Scrotebag in a Punto 1.2 think it's nessesary to perform some stupid arsed 50 in a 30 overtake as when we get to an NSA bit he's just going to be in the way...or in a ditch?

I was driving a friends SLS the other week, window down, enjoying the noise at under 30 in a 30, and got a 'flash bustard' from some runt in a fiesta.
I get it all the time in the 991. If you have a nice car, you must have mugged, raped or generally abused the proleteriat to get it. Rise above it and leave it in your wake.
Mind you I get grief in anything I drive, as even if it's a 1.1l hire car, I'll be overtaking a load of cars that are bumper to bumper behind a truck, going nowhere.
The british see it as queue jumping. What they are queuing for I don't know!
I always console myself with the fact that they've obviously got nowhere better to be than sat behind a truck.

If you were driving a tintop you wouldn't notice. The fact that the roof is off means you can hear the meatheads' envy. All you need to remember is that you just made their already s
tty day just that little bit worse. Cool, huh? Makes me smile every time. After all, they'll go back to their hovel in a bad mood, and you get to drive a fantastic sports car for another hour. Poetic? Oh yes...

The other nice thing is that when someone at a petrol station or car park says "lovely car, mate" and you get the chance to say something pleasant back BOTH your days got that little bit better. What goes around comes around...

Is this possible in a 1.1 (even a ragged hire car?)..........
The key to driving underpowered cars is brake for nothing. Maintain momentum at all costs. And remember the fastest car in the world is a hire car!

Depends a lot on where you live I guess. Worst I got was from a middle aged lady in a village, I was pulling away from one of those speed reducing chicane things in first gear, the car made a bit of noise and she literally jumped out to give me abuse for speeding. I was doing about 25 mph. Hilarious really as a 944 on the limiter in first will struggle to get over 30 and is about 20 dB quieter than a similar age 911. Some people just really do not like anyone having any fun or challenging their extremely conservative view of the world.
