I've had my car for a couple of weeks now. Great car but I do find my clutch is a bit 'notchy' when changing gears, on some occasions. It doesn't appear to be any particular gear. Has anyone else experienced this or is every change smooth. My clutch is always fully down etc. I'm hoping it will get smoother with more use but don't it's not improving so far.
It probably happens with 20% of changes

Standard feature on all bmw's normally happens between first and second. You have to be a bits slower when changing gears and then it's a bit better

Yes mine (with 1,500 miles on it) has a notchy change between 1st and second. Not an issue once you get used to is and doesn't need to cause jerkiness.

I removed CDv in the past and it makes little difference if any to the change

What's CDV?

It seems to be in any gear for me, I can get used to it but it's a shame that so many gear changes are notchy, considering how smooth a normal change is

Clutch Delay Valve.

A stupid little device fitted by BMW to protect the drivetrain from people that can't drive.....but makes gear changing for those that can, a PITA.

Mine is notchy going into 3rd and 4th, I haven't really noticed anything really noticeable between 1st and 2nd which appears to be common. Car has done around 2000miles now.

Have you considered changing the gear oil?

If you put in something like the Redline D4 Automatic Transmission fluid you will get much slicker gear changes, it is a much thinner viscosity and the gears just glide in. Can be a bit more notchy from a cold start, but after a few changes it is so much nicer.

You will need two bottles of that and will be left with around half a bottle.

Takes 10 minutes to change.

Or go with MTL if you just want all round nicer changes from cold and when warm.

On my Z3 I found a combo of both to work really well, I have around 70% D4 and 30% MTL.

However, not sure if there is anything in the later 'boxes that might not like this. Sometimes if a 'box has so copper and alu next to each other certain oils can cause them to corrode.
So do some research before adding anything.

But the MTL is a great fluid and is fine in your 'box.

The 'box will take a good few Kmiles to fully loosen up.

They are very well engineered to cope with a lot of torque and abuse throughout its life. I'd hold off changing the 'box fluid until you are at 10k miles and see how you go from there.

Seen this post got me digging, and it seems you could well be right.

It also seems that the gearbox in the M135 is the same 'dry sump' type gearbox unit as the 1M had and therefore not the same as the other F2* 1 Series cars.

Hold on, is it the clutch that is an issue or the gear change?

Is this a new M135i or previous model?

BMW have had serious issues with the clutch and flywheel since mid 2006, but I thought it was sorted from the new models.

Search BMW Clutch judder on google and read the results over the next few weeks!

There wasn't a previous model M135i.

I think you posted before about "BMW's serious issues with clutch and flywheel since mid 2006" but I am still to come across anyone who has suffered from them on petrol cars.

I said the same, that is was diesels only, but was assured it was all manuals by various owners on e90post that owned manual petrols with the issue.

What was the previous model called?

No it's a new car. Gone through 400 miles now. Yeh it's the gear stick I should have said not clutch.

I do feel it's a bit looser, or maybe I'm just getting used to it and not noticing it as much
